Scholarship pulled because of EFC

Financial aid office at my college pulled my scholarship because of my parents income or EFC. I am curious to know if they can officially do that? My scholarship was given to me by an alumni organization.

Can you provide more information? Was it rescinded because your parent’s income was higher than predicted at the time the scholarship was awarded (ie, the award was need-based)?

yes, it is need based however, my parents have no intention on assisting with the funds and i have been going through this for 4 years now. I would always get the scholarship and only now the financial aid office wont accept it.

If it is a need based award, and you don’t have financial need, the scholarship can be withdrawn.

The school doesn’t care that your oarents WON’T help you…they care about the calculations that say whether they can help you.

It sounds like you don’t have any financial need per the school calculation.

You could contact the alumni group, that awarded you the scholarship, and ask them about your continued eligibility.

Are you a college junior?

?

Won’t accept what?

Are you saying that your EFC has been the same these previous years, but you were still awarded the merit?

Are you sure that the EFC has been about the same? Can you check?

You need to contact the school and the alumni group. I doubt that they would want their scholarship recipient to have to drop out. If you need help with a letter to them, send me a PM.

Thank you so much ma’am… I will be in the office on Monday to discuss it. I will be sure to inform you on what is going on.

You need to be very polite, and grateful for what you’ve been given so far. You need to address that you chose the school because of the merit, because your parents aren’t helping you with college costs. Certainly the goal of the award is for the recipient to graduate.

Tomorrow, try to find out who the contact person is from the Alumni group.
