Say you didn’t get a scholarship offer. You still go to UMD, and you work really hard. Do the university offer anything more if your semester/year grades are exceptional? Or are the scholarship a one time thing (you get one before you enter the college and never again, or, if you didn’t get one, you will never get one)?

Thanks!

Yes, there are additional scholarships available after your freshman year. Most of the ones my son is applying for are specific to his major -computer engineering- so you might want to check for your specific major.

If you commit to the school prior to the Mid March scholarship notifications, will that better your chance for an increased amount or are the scholarship totals set from the notification of admissions?

If you make Dean’s list they will open up scholarships to those students, thus, yes, work your butt off, do good and you can find a new pool of money.
