scholarship recommendation

Hi

I have been working on a scholarship essay for the USB Crohn’s scholarship which must be postmarked by February 6th. I have also received my guidance counselor’s recommendation and my old tutor’s recommendation.

I just realized that the outline says I may send up to three letters of recommendation, and the first thought that came to my mind was a letter from my Calculus teacher. The reason I say this is because he sees me as the most motivated student in the class, and one who often teaches him new tricks to solve problems that he did not think of. I have self studied most of the course so I am way far ahead of the other students in my calculus course, despite being absent a lot in the first semester/quarter.

The problem I see myself running into is that He would only have a few days to write this recommendation (4 days to be exact if I send an email and he receives it Monday). Would it be fair to ask him to do this for me, or should I settle with the two [great] letters that I have already?

OH my other question, the rules do not outline how the essay must be formatted, would it be taboo to have the essay single spaced (so it would really be 2 pages double spaced), or is it customary for it to be double spaced?

Thanks for any advice

anyone have an opinion?
