Scholarship Weekend - virtual attendance?

Does anyone have a strong opinion on whether opting for a virtual interview will be a major hindrance for this (very limited spots offered)? They would very much like to attend, worried about being out of sight, out of mind, but it’s a major financial and time consideration as living abroad?

This is not one where you already got the scholarship and are interviewing for which one, but rather interviewing for whether you get one at all.

We were lucky that in my daughter’s year it was all virtual, due to covid. So no one had an advantage.

Since you asked for opinion, I think it’s like TO in some ways. It’s likely a higher amount of kids get accepted with test than without.

Same with this - it’s much better to shake hands, look people in the eye, interact with others vying for the same spot where they can watch you, get to know the school and kids they have helping to host - then being on camera and having no true connection.

That said, you won’t be the only, some will likely get it from virtual, and you do what you can - it’s a trade off.

If it’s too expensive or conflicting schedule wise, then you make the choice. I mean travel alone seems to be onerous if living abroad. So your absence is perfectly reasonable. But that doesn’t diminish an in person advantage I think others will have.

Like admissions, if you don’t get it, you won’t know why.

But I’d think the odds are greatly enhanced if you go. That said, either way, you still have to perform well.

Likely less ‘stress’ on virtual because you don’t need to mind your Ps and Qs for every waking moment !!

Good luck whatever you decide.

You live abroad. In my opinion, colleges understand the costs and time associated with traveling from abroad.

It’s not at all like TO.

@MYOS1634 your thoughts!

Decided not to attend, it’s just too much. I know it’s ideal to have a full weekend to make an impression, but I’m not sure being jet lagged would lead to that anyway. Take our chances on the one-on-one and hope for the best. Thanks all.

That’s fair.

Best of luck.
