Our daughter is a currently a freshman at Notre Dame and we are curious of there are scholarship opportunities for current college students that she could apply for? She won a lot of scholarships that covered the majority of freshman year tuition, and a bit of every year thereafter, but she wants to try and get additional ones if possible.
Scholarships for current college students are very few, far between, and typically small amounts. Like, you’re typically looking at awards that cover books, if that.
IMO probably not worth the effort needed from the applications. Just have her do well and if she gets a department award, she gets a department award.
A more reliable strategy is probably to hold down a job or two in school, and/or doing well and landing internships for the summer, where (depending on the field) big(ger) bucks can be made.
There are some but most seem to be focused on the major. Society of Women Engineers is a consolidator of several for, duh, women in engineering. There are some for business majors. They are all very competitive.
Your daughter should check with the financial aid office at ND as they may know of scholarships that other students have received, or there may be some from alums or businesses in the area.
Outside entities don’t seem to have much/any interest in providing scholarships for continuing students.
Best to have your daughter look at what her dept major offers.
