Scholarships if not planning on finishing bachelors

I’m a rising senior & I plan to go to college as an undergrad for 1-2 years to complete all my pre-reqs before hopefully moving on to pharmacy school. My question is that I know you have to pay back scholarships if you drop out of college, so would I have to pay back any scholarships I earn if I go to pharmacy school before finishing my bachelors degree.

Thanks for any help!

Most scholarships and grants do not need to be repaid if you stop going to school. However, you will be completing a degree if you attend pharmacy school.

which pharmacy programs will admit a student for an advanced degree without a BS?

My first choice for pharmacy school will be Texas A&M which along with many other pharmacy programs do not require students have a BS but rather just have all the pre-reqs completed…In fact only 30% of their students who enrolled last year were degreed.

You are correct. You would be applying for admission to the pharmacy program at A and M after completing the prerequisites courses.

How will you pay for pharmacy school?

Many pharmacy schools only require certain prerequisites to be completed like Gen Chem, Gen Bio 1 and 2 with labs, Org Chem 1 and 2 with labs, English Comp, Calculus 1, Statistics, etc, some require physics.
If the student has some AP credit, and number of prerequisites is around 60-70 credits, these can be completed in 2 years.

My D is doing pre-pharmacy and pharmacy school at the same university. She has a merit scholarship and is able to use it there for the two years pre-pharmacy and first two years of pharmacy school.

She took her PCAT the summer after the first year of pre-pharmacy.

Your goal should be to get your prerequisites done as inexpensively as possible because you will incur debt for pharmacy school.

What kind of scholarship are you talking about that you need to pay back?

You will need high grades in all prerequisites, and relevant job experience.
You might want to go to Texas AM pharmacy school, but you might need to apply to several pharmacy schools.

According to the PharmCAS profile
Texas AM requires 72-75 credits of prerequisites. And bachelor’s degree is preferred for admissions.

You can try and take the PCAT after the first year, and apply, and of you don’t get accepted, you can finish your bachelor’s.

@mommdc

Yes I’m trying to get as much AP credit as possible & am also taking the rest of the non-science related pre-reqs over the summer at a community college.

I’m planning on attending A&M for pre-pharmacy which is why A&M’s pharmacy school is my first choice.

I wasn’t referring to any scholarships in particular…just wanted to get make sure nothing would backfire before applying to scholarships and financial aid.

& yes I’m planning to just apply to A&M’s pharmacy school (maybe 1 or 2 others) & will just finish my bachelors if I don’t get accepted.

I’d check with someone in admissions in the graduate pharmacy program to make sure that AP credits and pre-req’s at community college will “count”.

I know for sure AP credits do count but I do have to check with community college credits

Who told you that?
Not true

There are certain scholarships you need to pay back if you don’t meet the requirements when granted the scholarship - for example, there are some teaching scholarships that require you work a couple years in the state as a teacher, and if you don’t fulfill those requirements (clearly outlined in the scholarship offer) then you pay money back. But those are rare cases.

Loans you need to pay back regardless of whether you graduate or not. Scholarships and grants do not need to be paid back. You can lose a scholarship even if you stay in school, for example if you GPA is below the minimum to maintain the scholarship, but even then you just lose the future money - you don’t have to pay back the money you already received.

Ok thanks for clearing things up
