My son got an email yesterday from his guidance counselor asking him to rate on a scale of 1-5 which schools he would be interested in attending if he got a large merit offer. My understanding is that these schools offer large scholarships based on nominations by the guidance counselor as juniors. I think they are making these nominations in advance of Honors Day next month so they can be announced then. The only schools I can remember are UNC, Furman and Wofford. We have already discussed UVA with him so the counselor knows where he stands on that. Unfortunately, most of the schools listed were small liberal arts colleges which my child has zero interest in. However, this made me wonder what other schools offer these sorts of scholarships requiring nomination by the guidance counselor. Any others?
The Rensselaer Medal at RPI requires a nomination. I think the award is about $25K per year.
Thank you! Helpful since my child wants to be an engineer
