Scholarships to help with out of state fees

I am in Alabama wanting to go to Kentucky but my out of state fees are outrageous. Is there any scholarships available for this where you don’t have to have a 3.5 GPA? Thanks

I doubt it…not private ones for all four years. You need to look at UK’s awards and see if you qualify for them.

BTW…the OOS costs are not “outrageous”. It costs that much (and more) to provide an education for you. Your family doesn’t pay taxes there, so the Kentucky residents aren’t going to contribute their tax money to pay for your education. Alabama taxpayers will help pay for your education at an AL public. But an AL public univ will charge a high price to a Kentucky student who wants to go to school in AL (unless he qualifies for a merit scholarship - not funded by tax-payers)

What are your test scores and GPA? If they are strong enough, there may be other schools that will be affordable.

and how much will your family pay each year for college? Even if you stay instate, there will be a substantial cost unless you qualify for enough merit/grants or you commute from home.

Out of state fees are purposely high to encourage those students who really want to go to school out of state to pay full fees.

Shauntel, if that school in Kentucky is a Kentucky public university, why would they subsidize a non-taxpayer, no-resident to attend? They would be using Kentucky taxpayer dollars to do so.

The school likely provides scholarships to very high stats kids only.

Heck, your own state universities in Alabama have a GPA/SAT cutoff for their scholarships. Why would t Kentucky have the same.

And I just have to ask…why is Kentucky better than your own public universities?

Why do you want to go to KY?
What’s your parents’ budget?
What are your stats?
Are you applying to a public or a private university?
