I applied to UNC, and my stats are significantly higher than the 75th percentile. I see kids getting invited to Scholarship Day, yet I wasn’t invited, even though they might not have the same stats that I do. This worries me for more competitive schools… are they better than me in the adcom member’s eyes? Did they give them the scholarship opportunity to keep their yield % high or was there another reason related to me? (I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I’m just seriously confused.)
If you’re going to spend your life worrying about what other people got (that you didn’t), you’re going to have a pretty miserable life. College admissions decisions are quirky - what one school decides may be 100% different from what another school decides. Stop worrying, and wait and see what happens.
Schools have agendas. they will target certain students to add what they need…certain ethnic groups, students from certain regions of the country or state, students with particular majors (and the background that supports sustaining that major), students with hardship backgrounds, etc.
When it comes to competitive scholarships, stats are only a piece of the puzzle.
