Scholarships

Any suggestions for some scholarships out there! I am a caucasian female entering my senior year of high school from New Jersey and I go to a Catholic High School. I have a 4.0 GPA and I am involved in several sports and extracurriculars

The best strategy is to apply to schools where you’re guaranteed or will likely receive merit money for your stats. Outside scholarships are never to be counted on for anything; that said, if you plan to apply for outside scholarships in addition to institutional ones, I can post my partial list from senior year.

Your best chance at scholarships comes from the college(s) that admit you.

Locate the “Common Data Set” for each college that interests you. On the CDS, you can find the 25/75% admission statistics for that school. If your stats are above the 75th percentile, your chance of merit aid increases.

Then, look at the college’s website and see what types of scholarships they offer, and whether high merit is one of the criteria. If they only offer need-based financial aid, they will not give you a merit scholarship.

You can also look up the statistics for merit and need based aids for each school. Find out what % of students get that and the average amount. All these info are available.
