Are there any scholarships that I apply to? *TO THE SCHOOLS I HAVE LISTED BELOW, MOSTLY STANFORD

-senior in high school
-female
-act score 33
-gpa 4.15
-UC gpa (4.18)

  • club president of mental health club, theatre (including 2 national shows), previously was in girls scouts, played soccer for 10 years.
  • perfect record (school discipline)
    ---------------- Honors taken in MS (I do not think these count) 4- H Engish 7th, H English 8th, algebra 1 H 7th, geometry H 8th
    ----------------Honors taken in HS 3- H eng 9th, H eng 10th, Pre calc H 11th

  • Fluent in spanish, won spanish award, won sculpture/ceramics award, won theatre award

Stanford only offers need based financial aid and athletic aid.

Have you looked at the scholarship info online? for example, UCSD lists all their offerings [url=<a href=“https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/types/scholarships/%5Dhere%5B/url”>https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/types/scholarships/]here[/url].

Stanford gives only need based aid. Do you have financial need?

Also you need to understand that the acceptance rate at Stanford is about 5% of applicants. You are not a slam dunk for admission. Almost no one is.

Are your Calgrant eligible? Most need based aid for the CA publics comes from Calgrant…

If you are fluent in Spanish, why did you get a 3 on the AP exam?

I was going through a hard time with bullies at school around the time of the AP test, so that influenced me quite a bit. Unless it’s a special case (like mentioned) I am very strong in Spanish and had gotten A’s in all 6 years of the class. I know… I definitely wish I was emotionally feeling better during the test, but hey, it is what it is.

Check Fastweb for scholarships. I’ve applied to a couple from them…

Stanford has 3 groups for aid I believe. 100% below $100k income, 50% for those between $101k - $250k, and 0% above $250k.

@blossom what is your question or point? You willing to help or just throwing shade?

Happy to help, trying to get the full picture on an applicant’s strengths, weaknesses, financial limitations, etc. Does no good to randomly throw out ideas on how to pay for a college which a kid is unlikely to get admitted to. Especially since a random Fastweb scholarship is just likely to reduce a college’s need based aid package.

How much will your parents pay?

Do you qualify for a Cal Grant?

If you NEED scholarships to afford FOUR years of college, then Fastweb and similar will be a waste of time.

What school is your SAFETY that you know FOR SURE that you have ALL costs covered AND you will happily attend (and be accepted).

Fastweb is not the best site to find scholarships whatsoever. They used to be helpful but not anymore in my opinion.

I got sucked into a bunch of scams back when I started looking so watch for those if you do pursue scholarships!

And lastly, I personally think you are quite competitive for scholarships! Involved, good GPA, great ACT score. You just have to find the money! Best of luck!

Honestly I have such a knee jerk reaction to calling Fastweb or the scholarships listed on it a “scam”. Did you lose money? Were you lied to? If not, it’s not a scam. It was probably a big waste of time – but that’s not a scam, and by calling it one, you’re trivializing the impact REAL scams have on people.

Ok. So, done proselytizing. Fastweb et al helped me a lot BUT you can’t use their search features. You really need to just pull up their “upcoming deadlines” page and sort through the upcoming scholarships yourself to see if you may fit one. That’s what I did.
