Hi guys. I’m a junior in hs now and I really want to win a national medal (I’ve won gold keys every year, but never a national). Anyone have any tips or advice on how to make it to national? I have a prose-poem piece abt my cultural heritage I’m thinking of something since I know scholastic likes that kind of thing.
Hey everyone!
Sorry I’ve been so dormant lately! Life got in the way XD.
BUT GOOD NEWS! SCHOLASTIC IS NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN! I’m so excited for this new year!
Hopefully, everyone will be able to get the results that they desire!
I’m a senior this year so I’ll be submitting a portfolio and a few individual pieces. I don’t expect much for the portfolio but I’m hoping I’ll be blessed enough to receive even one gold medal for one of my individual pieces
@Lunarlitgend Good luck!! Hope you get a national award this year, you deserve it
i’ve been trying to write a couple of new pieces but everything i write now is garbage so i’ll probably just submit a portfolio of old stuff at this point, cross my fingers, and hope for the best, lol ? anyone else having the issue of writer’s block/lack of new language and imagery? esp. since i’m a stressed-out senior, with college apps and everything, it’s a struggle to sit down and write anything for myself.
@beautifulchaos I can totally relate. I only have half of my portfolio done, the rest is up in the air since I’ve been stressed out with college apps xD
I’ve won a gold medal and silver medal so I’m hoping to get some sort of award for my portfolio lol! Knowing that scholastics prefers political/cultural pieces really helps get that leg up. I’ve tried YoungArts but it’s so subjective and totally different every year… it’s like gambling or playing the lotto ?
Hoping all us writers get those gold medals this year tho!! im rooting for everyone ?
Would anyone here be interested in reading a short story and a few poems for Scholastic? I’d be willing to read any pieces you’d like to share too.
@wontonandrice I’m submitting to Scholastic in short story too and I’d love to share work! PM me
Ive just discovered this thread so hello to everyone! Ive submitted my visual arts portfolio and some individual stuff to Scholastic recently! Im so nervous and hope I at least get something for my individual pieces.
@RecalledtoLife I just read your work, and wow! I loved it. Congratulations on your success man, you deserve it.
Good luck to everyone! I haven’t been on any Scholastic threads before, but this community looks incredibly supportive, so I decided to join this year. Last year I got a gold medal and best-in-grade award, so if anyone needs critiques on work, I’d be happy to help out!
Everyone, reminder to get all your forms signed by your regional deadline!
Does anyone know how long it takes for scholastic to reply to emails/phone messages? I had to choose “other educational program”: and it said it’ll take 3 business days for it to be processed but the deadline is in less than that so I’ve emailed and called but the office isn’t open today. I’m freaking out. Do you think they’ll respond on Monday?
@sdav2003 They probably will respond on Monday. They’re pretty quick on responses.
For the word count, should I include or exclude any translations for foreign words? I have about 16 translations so the number of additional words is actually a lot. I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just want to make sure I do everything right. Thank you so much!
My submissions disappeared suddenly and freaked me out. They came back after a while but has anyone else had that happen?
Does anyone have tips on entering photographs to Scholastic Art Awards? I’m new to photography. I think I have some cool shots but I’m not experienced in how to submit. I just uploaded my first photo to Scholastic and it says it’s of poor print quality. Also, what size should I input? What materials should I list? Any and all advice is welcomed.
Hi guys! New to the chat - actually new to college board. I’ve been lurking for years but reading this chat is what finally compelled me to sign up!! Just submitted a fictional piece for the CA region!! (Deadline was today). I’ve tried to submit to Scholastic before but something has always come up, so this is my first year actually submitting, even though I’m already a junior (better late than never right??:)). Anyways, I challenged myself to write a creative piece because I loved creative writing as a kid but shifted heavily to pragmatic writing forms like journalism in the past few years. Therefore, it’s not my best writing ever so I’m not expecting much but we’ll see I guess! Honestly, I’m just hoping for an honorable mention or (fingers crossed) a Silver Key at this point:). Anyways, I’m kind of rambling but I just wanted to introduce myself. Good luck to everybody!!!
heya everyone!! i was a newbie last year returning for one final hurrah this year. the deadline for my region passed an hour ago (exactly at the time i’m writing this), so now there’s nothing left to do but wait until jan 31st.
i’m curious though, for those of you who’ve submitted, could you still edit/add works even past the deadline? bc my dashboard looks the same, even tho last year i swear the moment 11:59 ET hit, i was barred from changing or adding anything?
@phanakin same here, the dashboard is the same.
@phanakin I could edit past the deadline, but now editing is closed.
Editing is closed for me
