Scholorships for students above 3.0 but under 3.5

For the most part when I search for scholorships I see a cap of of at least 3.5, which discourages me. i am currently a junior, and I do alot of volunteer work. I also hold leadership positions at my school and im very experienced in leadership application. What kind of scholorships should I focus on? Im signed up with various sites, but the scholorships look very competitive. What should I do? How can i broaden my search?

From another thread, I know that you are very low income. That suggests that you need a lot of money.

Private scholarships aren’t likely going to help you much since many are for small amounts and ONLY for freshman year. College is 4 years, so you’d only have money for the first year.

The BEST scholarships are from the colleges themselves. Those are usually for all 4 years.

You need to bring up your GPA…work as hard as you can. Many scholarships require at least a 3.5 GPA. Is your GPA weighted?

What about test scores? Have you taken the SAT and ACT (take both). Scholarships also HEAVILY depend on test scores as well.

What state schools can you commute to? Those can be your financial safety schools since you can pay the costs with Pell and a small student loan.

Would something like Questbridge be an option for this student?

She might need higher stats. Are there stats req’ts for QB?

I received a letter in the mail from Questbridge. How selective are they?

Very selective. Are you a minority? You don’t have to be, but it helps.

yes i am minority

Some LACs like Clark University have merit scholarships for community service. Maybe Earlham, too? Check out the Colleges That Change Lives schools.

Do check out Questbridge.

Also, investigate the colleges and universities that participate in the Bonner Scholars Program which offers scholarships to students with a lot of community service.

@happymomof1 okay. =] thank you very much! Does this program have a site that lists its partners or do you have to contact admissions offices to get information like that?

[Bonner Scholars Program](http://www.bonner.org/campus/bsp/home.htm)

Good luck!

when you say ‘Colleges That Change Lives Schools’ im not sure what you mean. Could you please explain?

The CTCL list was first defined by Loren Pope in his book “Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools You Should Know About Even If You’re Not a Straight-A Student”. You should be able to pick up a copy of it at your public library if you don’t want to pay for one. Since he wrote that book, those colleges have put together a website that links to information about all of them: [Colleges That Change Lives | Changing Lives, One Student at a Time](http://www.ctcl.org/)

I have seen a number of LACs that offer scholarships for GPAs as low as 3.3 and maybe 3.0. They also tend to have an SAT/ACT requirement. In addition to CTCL schools that offer this, I seem to remember Augustana College in Illinois and Linfield College in Oregon. The question is whether financial aid + merit scholarship would bring the COA down sufficiently for you.

Check out the Colleges of Distinction web site for other ideas of schools to research. Just Google it.

what is your act score, what states are you willing to consider?

i am currently a junior

Do your best this year to bump up your GPA.

What is it currently? Are you taking any AP courses that a weighted GPA might get a boost?

What are your test scores?

Hello, just wanted to post an update to this thread. I have currently been awarded over $200,000 in scholarships (this is a count of all received. Not all i can accept). I also received a full ride scholarship to Bowling Green State University. Im very excited.

current gpa: 3.26
ACT: 26 composite.
class rank: 107/255

I wanted to post this to encourage someone who may not have the highest class rank or gpa that it is still possible to receive great aid.

Congrats!

What does your scholarship at Bowling Green cover? Tuition? or tuition plus more?

Check out the thread in the archives started by Momfromtexas on full ride scholarships.

The Presidential Leadership Academy covers full in state tuition and room and board. The other scholarships from the university paid for the difference of my out of state fee, which was $6,000.
