Hi, I am in the Navy and very worried about my college education and being behind the learning curve. Because I am on active duty I am very limited to the amount of school I can enroll in a classroom setting. This only leaves me with an online atmosphere, and is making my school search very hard. I am looking into Computer Science as a field of study and will be returning to IL after my enlistment is up. I have about 2 and a half years left in the military and I know a BS is out of my reach in that time frame, but I do want to shoot for a 2 year degree before my time is up. Anyone have any idea on a well known online college that would preferably transfer to a 4 yr university?

I would say that you have a number of opportunities if you want to go to college. If you want to go officer, try for the Naval Academy or NROTC. Honestly, if your fitness reports have been good and you’ve stayed out of trouble as an E, you might have a good chance at one of these commissioning programs if you consult your chain of command.

Illinois state schools give 120 credit hours of free classes to veterans, IIRC.

You will want a SOC school such as UMUC. This is one that can apply your military training to specific undergraduate reqs. Contact your Navy Education Center on your base.
