Is it appropriate to use this in an Essay, especially to justify your statement or belief? Last year, I used “Finis Origine Pendet” (the end depends upon the beginning) in my essay. I used it well to support my essay, and it went smoothly. Does it sound cheesy or anything, though? Do they get a million different kids each year who do this trying to get into the school.

I think that would be fine, as long as you are not using the school you are applying to’s motto. That would be cheesy.

That’s my point… I AM using the motto of the school to which I am applying…

If it really, really fits, then I’d put it in there.
But if it seems at all like you’re going out of your way to put it in there, I wouldn’t.

Seems slightly brown nose to me.

I didn’t try, a similar statement just came. I thought to myself, “hey, why not make it the motto.”

you should use your motto, i think if you allude to it enough (but not too much or else you do seem like brown nosing) then the school’s gonna think woah this person’s got the same values as the school.

IF admissions officers read this site, it would make it much easier to identify you.

This could be a good thing, or a very bad thing…

Thanks for the advice, guys. Sometimes these mottos just go well with an essay.
