school report: is principal o.k?

hi all,

i’m in a bit of a nasty situation. my school switched me to a new guidance counselor last year. my counselor is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind. however, we have had barely any contact at all…usually just sorting out class schedules/administrative things. to give you a bit of an impression, my high school has about 1300 students with 4 counselors splitting the workload across grade levels. this includes not just college counseling, but social work, scheduling and about a million other things. in short, we haven’t had any real 1 on 1 time at all

on the other hand, my school principal knows me quite well. we’ve spoken on several occasions about academic/personal things, and i frequently see and chat with her after-hours when i am working within my school as a computer technician. i also know first-hand that she is an outstanding writer, and could potentially write a more meaningful, helpful letter than my counselor.

i plan on calling yale myself and asking this question, but i was just curious if anybody else had the same issue/knows the answer.

i’m pretty sure that isn’t allowed. it’s pretty specific it must be a GC. Why don’t you use him for an extra rec?

i searched the internet a bit…

both princeton and dartmouth use the common application and allow principals to submit the school report. i still can’t find any mention of this for yale, though (for non-international applicants at least.)

wow, i’m almost in the exact same situation! my old gc retired and i have a new one this year. she has like 400 kids, and i only met with her once to change my schedule… on the other hand, i’m great friends with my new principal.

Why don’t you just email the Admissions Rep for your region and ask?
