The environment in our towns are changing. What was once a rare occurrence is now happening more frequently.
Still very disturbing. The other day I was at the mall but I found myself being more aware of my surroundings because these days anything can happen anywhere. At a school, in a movie theatre, at a mall, or a parking lot. At the same time we still have to go about our lives hoping that the day will be fine.
There were three victims at the school and one victim in a home close by was killed.It appears to be domestic in nature. One child is currently in surgery, the teacher and other student do not have life threatening injuries. The shooter is the son of the person killed. Evidently , there was a quick response by law enforcement which prevented further injuries . The shooter is currently in custody. This is a very rural area close to the Georgia/SC line.

This is so incredibly sad. There seems to be no end to the madness.
The online communities make these events seem so close to home. An online running friend works in the Washington state Macy’s where the recent shooting occurred. She wasn’t there at the time, but one of her coworkers died. She is devastated. Knowing her connection made the shooting feel as if it happened next door, even though it was 3,000 miles away from me.
The teacher and one student have been released from the hospital already, one student remains in surgery . The shooter was 14. He drove a truck to the school and crashed into the playground fence. He never was able to enter the school , all shootings occurred on the playground . A volunteer firefighter responded to the 911 call and subdued the teenager without incident.
@carolinamom2boys is there any known connection between the teen and the school? A mother who works there or a sibling who attends?
They haven’t released that info yet @romanigypsyeyes but I know that is something that’s being investigated. The 14 year old was being homeschooled , but I don’t know if he had any prior relationship to the elementary school.
I don’t know that, but the man who was killed was the 14 year old alleged shooter’s father. The child who is in critical condition is 6 years old.
According to Greenville on-line, the alleged shooter is homeschooled. I note this just because it means he wasn’t a student at the school.
The school was an elementary school @jonri . At 14 he would be too old to be a student there. He may have attended in the past.

Fox News reports the child’s condition as serious , not critical.
He was shot in the leg, the other student was shot in the foot and the teacher has a shoulder wound.

For stories like this, I’ve found the local news media are usually the most accurate.
@jonri the info I reported is from the local fox station not the national news network. The Independent Mail is a small , local newspaper . I am receiving the info from local news stations as I live an hour from the school.
Okay, I didn’t realize you were reporting from a local station. Obviously, I don’t know the real story, but you have my source. Kid’s name and photo are already out there and his mom’s employer has reportedly confirmed it’s her son. Once they put out the father’s name, I guess it wasn’t hard to find out the son’s.
@jonri I think more info will come out tomorrow as the investigation continues. I think many times in order to “break” a story first , sometimes the info is not always accurate right away. I watched the news conference by the coroner , police chief , and school representative , and it was clear that they were withholding some info that is currently under investigation . I’m just glad that it was ended before anyone else was injured .
We can all agree on that! To be truthful, I’m also glad there’s no possible terrorism or racism link.
