Hi, I’m quite new to this website, but I thought it would be a good place to ask. I’m really nervous about not getting into the places I applied to because they’re all really good schools. What are some places that do rolling admissions, will add me to their waitlist, or that I can apply to from now until March 10th.
Here’s a little bit about me:
I’m currently a sophomore, and I’d probably be applying to be a junior.
I’ve taken the PSAT 10 (1500) and SSAT (2367)
I’m involved in many extracuricullars,
President of Student Council (Entails a lot I wont write it out)
Co Chair of numerous Student Council subcommittees (Entails a lot I wont write it out)
Co Chair of Environmental Club, have raised thousands of dollars to make our school district more environmentally friendly and change all plastic trays and utensils to reusable and biodegradable, etc
Vice President of our Best Buddies Club (Volunteer with buddies with intellectual and developmental disabilities, manage events, raise money)
Member of Robotics Club, Chess club, Student Union
I’ve won a few local but small AR Reading, Poetry, and Invention Convention awards.
I run Track and Field and play volleyball at the Varsity Level, volleyball I’m a pretty ordinary player but for Track and Field my times are pretty competitive.
I’ve been in Dance, Choir, Piano, and Theater since I was roughly 10 with many solos and main roles, I would absolutely love to go to a private school with a great arts program.
There’s probably a bit more about me that I’m forgetting…
My recommendations are very good (I’ve read a couple, one of my teachers definitely makes me sound like a way better candidate than I probably am)
My grades are 98-100s with one B, all my other grades in previous years have been 97-100.
I’m a pretty good student with a good record.
My essay skills are pretty good I would say.
What are my chances at getting in a good school and where are some other places where I can apply wayy after the deadline? :')
You seem like you have a strong profile. The issue is that you are applying very late. It is extremely hard to get accepted as a junior. If you apply this year you will be able to apply for sophomore entrance, which will increase your chances significantly. The issue is that you are starting your application right before M10, which significantly decreases your chances and options. If you are unable to apply to the schools you are interested in this year, you might have to reclassify next year. From what I saw in Gateway to Prep Schools, a lot of schools don’t have any openings for seniors.
For your actual applications, the most important advice I can give is to ask yourself why you want to go to a boarding school. If you can clearly articulate multiple reasons why you want to and should go to one, your essays and interviews will go much better. During my interviews, several of my interviewers said I was very articulate. I think they got this impression because frequently and clearly explained why I wanted to go to their school. I was only able to do this because I had spent hours thinking about it beforehand, researched every school I applied to extensively, and practiced all of my reasons in my head. If you want to improve your applications, think long and hard about why you are even doing them. It also might help you figure out if you want to apply in the first place, because it is a large time investment and the chances are low.
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. My classes are pretty rigorous I take a mix of Honors and AP. A lot of my teachers teach at a college level, a lot of people don’t do so well so I don’t think its that easy of classes. I’m just a bit crazy when it comes to academics. We are actually an exception for public schools the academics are really good here and strong. I hate to leave but the school is poor and going downhill and absolutely vile when it comes to racism. Our school is so bad with bullying that we started a good amount of Massachusetts bullying and safety rules that are in place now. We also lost our school to mold almost 2 years ago and it’s already back and it’s so bad for my lung condition. They also did a horrible job of accommodating me when I had cancer among many other health problems and just so many fishy things going on here. I could go on and on but just giving you idea of why I need to leave public school. I think I did a good job going deep into this deep into why I want to go to private school on my application. I already did apply to some before the deadline but I want to apply to some safeties that take wayy after the deadline, and know my chances to get into some of the school I applied to so far… Groton, Loomis, Choate, Williston, WMA, NMH, Deerfield (Dream day school and my mother works in Greenfield with a lot of people who also work at Deerfield, they are just as much praying as I am that I get in I’m especially nervous about this one)
I have not talked to any coaches at any of the schools but I did notice that basically all their records they have for the womens 100m are seconds away from my time so I feel like if I went there I’d stand a good chance at breaking them. I’ve been at high level meets so I was thinking about sending highlights but I heard there’s a whole silent period or something but I included information about it on my applications briefly. I’m not like olympic worthy but I wish I could’ve gotten “recruited” for sports or something I just don’t know what I’m doing and my coach is not helping just being annoying doesn’t even want me to leave. (Even though I’ve clearly maximized my growth here)
I have already applied to Groton, Loomis (But I’m 100% not going there), Choate, Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Wilbraham Monson Academy, Williston, Northfield Mount Hermon
Based on your post, I’m guessing that you’re in Massachusetts? If you’re within commuting distance of Boston, both Newman (coed in Back Bay) and Woodward (girls, in Quincy, but across from the train station so girls commute from all the greater Boston area, including the north shore) will take late applications from strong applicants. They are both fantastic schools that don’t get nearly the respect they should.
It’s honestly not worth borrowing trouble, though: in a week, you’ll know about the other schools you applied to. Only worry about a Plan B if you need it

These are good.
I am not a sports person. However, I do know you should send your times directly to their track coaches or their athletic recruitment form. I think if the coaches like your scores, you will be “recruited” and they will advocate for you in the admissions process.
No, I did not apply as a repeat sophomore. I would not be against it though since everyone is 16 and I just turned 15. I skipped a grade a while back, I feel like it would kinda be weird to then go back. But I already applied as a junior anyway
I agree with what the others have said. I would not recommend making any calls or emails to new schools at this point. Wait to see what March 10 brings. If you need something to keep you busy this week, you can certainly research potential schools (look at the “hidden gem” threads on this site), but there is no sense in putting in any additional applications until you have your March 10 news. I know waiting is hard!
