wow, thanks for the link.

Pitt and Carnegie Mellon are the good ones in Pitt.

Duquesne is OK

Then you got Point Park which sucks.

Washington and Jefferson is an LAC about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh, if you are interested in broadening your list. They are working hard to get students from out of their area and offer nice merit money.

Pitt just raised tuition as did Penn State and colleges of the state syster of higher education (aka the teachers’ colleges).

Washington and Jefferson is a well respected school, but it is more than a 30 minute drive from Pittsburgh. Depending on the route and traffic, I would figure at least 45 to 60 minutes, maybe more.

Pitt and CMU have great reputations. However a lot of classes are taught by grad students, some of whom have English as a Second Language. Just be warned – teaching is a secondary priority in many departments at both schools.

I’m a Duquesne alum, so my feelings toward DU are somewhat biased. Many of the programs there are more than OK, some are OK and some are less than OK. Like I said I’m biased (If you can’t go to college, go to Pitt).

Allegheny College is about 75 miles north of Pittsburgh and has a sterling reputation. Grove City is nearby … a well respected school but not for everyone. St. Vincent College is about 60 miles east of the city…SVC alumni used to be fantatical in their devotion to the college, but the current president leaves a lot to be desired in alumni circles

I went to cmu and majored in physics… I never had a class taught solely by a grad student. All the classes had a professor 2 or 3 times a week and then some classes would have a recitation with a grad student once or twice a week.
