I would love to hear more about Proctor. Not a lot of info on here but one S30 is applying to for next year. He plays hockey and has ADD, 3.5gpa w honors courses.
Would love to hear more about Williston as well. Looking at it for S30 hockey player w ADD, 3.5 GPA and honors classes.
Very different feels. I suggest you visit both. Both are great schools, but I bet he will prefer one over the other.
Sorry! Iām just seeing this today! Proctor is well-known for its Learning Skills program. My student doesnāt participate, but I think something like 40% of students do. They have different levels as well - you can work 1:1 with a Learning Skills person or be in a group, etc. And the Learning Skills staff are full-time, so itās not just a coach or a teacher also doing Learning Skills - they are dedicated staff members whose job is Learning Skills support.
As for the community, there are about 400 students there and they have lots of programming. It is in the middle of nowhere, but they get the kids off campus and out into the world on the weekends. What other questions do you have?
Iām surprised that no one else has mentioned Frederick Gunn, which is CoEd, has small class sizes, great theater and a strong learning skills department. Itās in Washington, CT, so is fairly close to either Hartford or NYC airports. (I also think that it would be an easy train ride from the Mid-Atlantic.) The outdoors program may also be of interest to your daughter.
Yes, true, my Williston theater kid had a hard time choosing between Gunn and Williston. Ultimately Gunn felt a little too small and rural to him, he liked Willistonās town setting better (he goes to Dunkin Donuts almost every day
). But yes, very nice theater and the theater director gave him a full backstage tour at revisit day.
You should 100% look at GUNN. Itās an amazing school that just finished a large and successful capital campaign. It checks all of your boxes. My son couldnāt be happier there.
