Yep. And even beyond that list ā my daughterās at Bates and writes for their newspaper, which very good and has an active alumni network of former newspaper staff who have gone into journalism (or some adjacent fields) and help current students find jobs and internships. She would not have known about that unless she contacted some editors to ask about the newspaper before she made her college decision, which is a step I encourage any student to take if they really want to pursue journalism in college. No journalism major at Bates, but a terrific experience nonetheless.
Just saw this thread but Iāll add my 2 cents- internationalsā IB diploma grades are not translatable into US GPA properly, similarly to the British system, because the only things that really matters is the final (or more likely predicted) grade. In general, an IB diploma score around 40 is worth as much as US unweighted 4.0 GPA, or 4.5 weighted (if that counts for anything). Itās a superb grade, good enough for any school. My own DD with 38 predicted had acceptances to several top 50 Universities and Liberal Arts Colleges, as well as top UK Unis. To put it into perspective, Oxford tariffs if you get a conditional offer are around 38/39, Cambridge 40/41.
Yes and now because sibling and friends w/ 44-45 IB expected got into amazing top schools (Harvard, ucla, cal tech, Williams etc), but also got turned down at Brown, MIT, Stanfordā¦.the US selection process is truly unpredictable outside of athletes and donors. Itās a lottery which requires good grades as a starter but not a guarantee
In this case Iām going to reiterate what others have said about American ā they offer a specialized major in ādata sciences for political science.ā
