Schools LIKE CMU - Where else are you applying?

I’ve been very impressed w/ CMU’s general approach to education. While I don’t care for the separation of departments (and the fact that you apply and are admitted to only one), I do appreciate their cross-disciplinary emphasis. They also seem to favor a unique mix of the “practical” with the “theoretical”. This appears to be true across the board, whether in the arts, engineering, or humanities.

Alas, it is also a VERY selective, and VERY expensive institution.

What other colleges are similar, but perhaps a notch down in both selectivity and cost?

Where else are you applying?

I’m applying to UR too

You can apply to two departments if you want, you just check two boxes or something and mention a second one in your essay. I was admitted to CIT and SCS.

I would suggest USC, because they seem very interested in getting/keeping good students and are generous with scholarship money, but the deadline for scholarship was today, I think.
