Schools open but this vaping thing is out of control.

Guys, this is a bit too much.

We have to do something about vaping.

First, it was in just the US but now it’s spreading up here in Canada.

We had our first few cases this month.

This is going to increase patients in our clinics and just going to put unnecessary strain on our medical system. Not to mention the kids who are now at risk.

This needs to stop.

I live in the NY tri-state area and this is all we are hearing on the news (TV, Radio, etc.) Vaping illness, laws against vaping, etc. Who would have thought inhaling chemicals through water into your body would be a bad idea? (sarcasm here) From what I understand, this has been a big craze for several years now with middle school students. Although the news is showing people who I would never have vaping, now sick with illnesses (stay at home moms, older people, etc.)

I worked with a contractor who was a smoker, but not a chain smoker. When he switched to vaping he had the thing in his mouth all the time. There’s no way that could be good for you.

Do they still sell cigarettes in Canada?

@Sybylla - Yeah but you can get fined to smoke in parks or like 3 meters from everyday shops. Something along those lines. We love being healthy here and that’s bad news for [medical doctors](https://invigomedia.com/medical-practice-marketing) I guess. hehe.

However, there are some provinces that have their own laws.

This may help;

I’m from BC.

My kids’ school is very strict about vaping. Many, many students have been suspended and/or expelled. I hear that some states are banning the flavored stuff, but my kids say the rumor is most kids are into mint and unflavored. I hope they ban them altogether, sigh.

They are rampant in our area. My daughter says the kids are doing during school and the teachers don’t know because they’re so small. I see how it could be better for adult smokers trying to quit, but these candy flavors are most definitely marketing to kids.

@taverngirl, is your kids’ school a private school? Seems like a harsh punishment for vaping.

If public, what does your school do with these “expelled” kids, as they are entitled by law to an education?

@Nrdsb4 same in our district. They are considered in the same class as drug paraphernalia and it’s illegal to have if you’re under 21. I’m all for it.

Suspended kids are entitled to home instruction depending on the number of days.

I cannot imagine suspending or expelling “many many students” in any public school without hearing about that.

@Nrdsb4 it’s a Catholic hs. And I was probably exaggerating with the “many, many” but considering there is maybe one suspension in any given year, the flurry of 10-15 for vaping did seem like many! They certainly seemed to nip it in the bud as it’s quieted down very much. My son just let me know that the expulsions were for the THC cartridges. I know it’s a problem at the local high schools, but I have no idea how they handle it. I’m assuming they would provide home tutoring for kids that were expelled.

No, they don’t.

Some of the districts here have the “bad kid” school for those who have been suspended or expelled. A guy I know teaches there and basically his job is to try to keep the kids up to date on their school work if they are expected to return to their school. If they aren’t, a new schedule of classes to get them through the GED is developed. Some of those at the special school are good students who did something dumb but many are students who were struggling.
