Hello,
The community college I currently attend charges a $20 fee for writing you a refund check. They also conveniently have no other way to issue you your refund. They split my refund split between two checks once, and they charged me $40. Is this a common policy, or is this school just really really s***ty?
my daughter’s school allows three methods for refunds, an ACH deposit to your bank account, a hard check issued to you, or a refund on a debit card. The debit card is the fastest, but there is a fee charged when you withdraw any money. The hard check is the longest, taking up to 10 days. The ACH deposit worked fine, and guess what? I had the refund deposited into MY account, not hers, because it was my money.
Are you sure there is no other method? I think charging $20 is a lot. Can you take a credit toward the next semester if it is a small amount?
How often do you get refunds and why so much over-payment on your end? Is this from dropping a class or something like that?
At D’s university, any over-payment in Fall is automatically credited for Spring. If balance in Spring, direct deposit or check issued, no charge.
20 is a lot. As suggested in above post, ask what your options for repayment are. They may have some cheaper options. Otherwise, you may just need to be more careful in what you choose to take and how you pay for it. It may be that the community college deals with so much reimbursement that they hope the extra charge is a deterrent.
The school is very small, and there I’d absolutely no other option for getting a refund. I get a refund every term, and it goes toward living expenses. This is my last term of school, but I’ve been dealing with this for 2 years now and wanted some answers.
Most schools will allow you to keep do a direct deposit into your bank account. Are you positive this school doesn’t do so?
Yep, the person who cuts the checks even told me that she wished that they would start doing direct deposit.
