Looking for other schools that offer great academics combined with a faith perspective. S is very out going and loves the outdoors and adventure. He does not want a party school and is very sincere about his faith.
Any suggestions …P.S. Although Malibu is wonderful he also loves snow and skiing so the North East works well too.

Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado combines a faith perspective with access to a very outdoorsy environment with snow and skiing.

Biola and Cal Baptist are fairly near mountains (within an hour). Taylor Univ. is in Indiana, Grove City College is north of Pittsburgh, Gordon College is near Boston, Colorado Christian is in Lakewood, Messiah is in central Pa, and Wheaton is outside of Chicago.

You can do some research on them as far as academics and nearby skiing, but those are just some off the top of my head that might be somewhat similar to Pepperdine.

I would add Baylor to that list. Samford, Calvin, and Seattle Pacific might be worth a look, too.

Seattle Pacific would be a great faith based school in a beautiful, vibrant location with skiing 45 minutes away and lots more within 1-2 hours.

If you are going to look at Calvin you should also look at Hope.

Azusa Pacific?

Covenant in Georgia and HIllsdale in Michigan

Point Loma Nazarene is a possibility.

Westmont in Santa Barbara? . Not so sure about Naropa; it is very spiritual, but not faith-based in the way Pepperdine is at all. Seattle Pacific, Gordon, George Fox, or Wheaton (IL) would be some others that come to mind.

I don’t believe that Hillsdale is particularly religious or affiliated with a church. It is politically conservative, some might say somewhat radical…but not generally associated with religious colleges. Perhaps post 7 is confusing Hillsdale with Grove City. Grove City has religious affiliations. Westmont in Santa Barbara has not been mentioned yet.

Some leading colleges here: <a href=“Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities - Wikipedia”>http://■■■■■■■.com/yoasxk

Pepperdine is associated with the Church of Christ, whose theology does not line up with other Christian denominations (I grew up in that church, so I know!). If you ARE Church of Christ, Pepperdine would be preferable to other schools. I was the black sheep in my family and left for another very conservative church.

Gonzaga University, Spokane,WA

GU Outdoors: An outreach of the Student Activities office, the Gonzaga Outdoors program is a resource for students to learn about and participate in outdoor recreation.
Gonzaga is a catholic university. While faith based, I feel it is very different than Pepperdine.

Gonzaga U. also competes in the West Coast Conference in Basketball and Rowing to name a couple of sports.

Basketball Excitement - The Bulldogs regularly achieve a spot on the Sweet Sixteen bracket for the annual NCAA National Championship (March Madness)

Rowing <a href=“Gonzaga University Athletics - Official Athletics Website”>http://■■■■■■■.com/lgdhq85 and <a href=“Gonzaga University Athletics - Official Athletics Website”>http://■■■■■■■.com/mkdjs4x

@deb922 over 20 different faiths attend Gonzaga U. I sure there are similar numbers at Pepperdine. In fact the Pepperdine is an opponent on the Gonzaga schedule for girls varsity volleyball.

However, someone who is very religious may be more sensitive to what less religious people may see as minor theological differences between different denominations of a religion.

There are hundreds of catholic colleges, BYU (3 of them), all the Wesleyans, etc. if the OP is just looking for colleges with a religious ‘feel.’ I think she was looking for one alined with her son’s views.

I agree that Naropa is rarely the right college for someone looking for religion.

^^Naropa is great if you are a Buddist just maybe not for conservative Christians. An interesting college but again probably alittle fringe for what the OP is looking for. The Catholic colleges are a good idea, but I wondered if the OP was looking at Peperdine if a Catholic institution was really going to fit their religious orientation.
