Hello everyone. I know that it’s crunch time for college admissions and I need some ideas on where to apply.

I’ve already picked:
-NYU
-CUNY Honors-Hunter
-U of Iowa
-U of Nebraska (in-state tuition)

But that’s it. I want a few more.

I’m looking for schools that match this profile, to some degree:
-East Coast (NYC is my favorite city!)
-Large/Active Catholic community
-Great physics department (my intended major)
-Relatively inexpensive or gives a lot of scholarships
-Generally good reputation

Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.77 (out of 4.0)
ACT: 31
SAT Subject tests: US History:700 Literature: 720
Rank: 36/490…really competitive high school

Any feedback would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks!!!

Baltimore is VERY Catholic. Have you ruled out JHU due to cost? If so, Loyola of Maryland might offer more affordability.

I don’t know about the physics department there, but have you looked into Fordham? It’s Catholic and located in NYC. It would be a low match, maybe even safety, for you. I don’t know how much it costs.

With a name like Red Elephant, I can’t see you being particularly happy in Greenwich Village, but if you’ve had positive experiences there, then go for it.

NYU is considered stingy when it comes to financial aid. Have you checked out Catholic schools near Philadelphia, such as Villanova? (There’s also St. Joe’s, but FA awards weren’t that great for the students who applied.) Cabrini College is smaller, and it doesn’t have a physics major, but I think the FA would be much more generous than the other two, especially since you are from Nebraska.

DougBetsy–do you think my stats are good enough for JHU?

I don’t know. I really have very little experience with “chancing” people.

But, here are the SAT ranges for JHU:

CR 630 - 730
M 660 - 770
W 630 - 730
(1920 - 2230)

ACT range is 28-33

Your GPA is in the good range and your class rank is top 10%.

Could it be a reach/low reach? Dunno.
