Schools that restrict admissions for out-of-state students

I know UVA does - they require a certain percentage of each class be from VA, which makes it much harder for out of state applicants.

How to find info about whether other schools do this? I am looking at Cal Poly with 85% CA residents. Does that mean admission is harder for out of state students?

The Cal Polys, as CSUs, have higher minimum eligibility requirements for out-of state students.

However, they may (possibly depending on major) be more selective than the out-of-state minimum anyway (CPSLO more likely than CPP in this respect).

Other state universities in other states may have other policies. For example, the top 6% rank automatic admission at University of Texas - Austin is only available for Texas residents.

I believe 85% of the incoming freshman class at UNC have to be NC residents (no restrictions on transfers).

In general, at the most desirable publics, it’s much tougher to get in if you are OOS (and exception seems to be UCSD).
