Schools that teach learning AND doing?

I’m one of those people who likes to learn not only by reading/studying but by DOING. Are there any colleges for which this type of education is a primary part? Not really talking about science/labs (I want to major in sociology or English) but just in general.

Take a look at Northeastern.

So you might want to search colleges with hands-on learning or experiential learning or coop programs.

This article lists some Co-op programs [GoLocalProv | Lifestyle | Colleges with the Best Co-Operative Education Programs](http://www.golocalprov.com/lifestyle/colleges-with-the-best-co-operative-education-programs/)

WPI’s motto is “Lehr und Kunst” or “Theory and Practice.” [WPI Difference - WPI](http://www.wpi.edu/about/difference.html)

Are there any cons to a co-op program like the ones above?

Usually it takes 5 years to graduate from a co-op program, while at many other schools you can get a Master’s degree in 5 years. You should read up on co-op programs to see if it would interest you. Here is the website for Northeastern’s co-op program for English majors:

California Polytechnic State University - Cal Poly for short - in San Luis Obispo. Their motto is “Learn by doing”. They are known for their strong engineering, architecture agriculture and business programs but they also offer quality social sciences.
