<p>Hi all -
I was wondering if there are any top colleges that attach particular importance to SAT subject tests? I understand that there are always going to be other, more important, factors, but I’d still like to know (having done particularly well in them). I’m an international student, and did MathII, Literature and World History, if that has any relevance.</p>

<p>Harvard and Georgetown since they both ask for three.</p>
<p>Northwestern University recommends three so I bet they also put some weight on them.</p>
<p>Hm… thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I’ve already ruled out Northwestern: unfortunately (but understandably) they essentially offer no FA for internationals. I’ll certainly apply to Harvard - there’s just the small issue of getting in 
This might be enough to push me into applying to G’town - I’ve been undecided on that for a while. Any other suggestions?</p>
<p>Maybe Rice…I once saw the average SAT subject test score for each subject test for admitted students on their website. It might still be there.</p>

<p>I second Rice, I visited and they personally said they like to use subject tests.</p>

<p>Rice definitely weighs the subjects a little more than its peers. I received a substantial amount of merit aid even though I feel like I don’t particularly deserve it. Comparatively, my app only stood out in the subject tests (4 of them all 740+). Everything else was average for Rice.</p>

I can’t wait for this coming fall</p>
<p>Pomona and Columbia (only schools I applied to that ask for more from home schooled students…4 as opposed to 2). I got 800s on three of them and a 780, and these were the best schools I was admitted to.</p>

<p>Hm… thanks again for all your thoughts. Everyone on this forum is always very positive about Rice, but I want to visit - I’m a bit worried about its size and location (I’m from the UK, and whenever I mention that I’m applying to a college in Texas, people think I’m insane). Still, it sounds like a great experience, and I’m a fan of the collegiate system.</p>

<p>What’s wrong with the location? Texas weather is a bit…unnerving at times, but I hear it’s not as bad as the weather in the UK.</p>
<p>And no, we Texans don’t speak with that Southern accent (well some do). We don’t ride horses (or cows) to school either – yes someone actually thought we rode cows to school. Location-wise, Rice isn’t too different from other colleges in the US.</p>
<p>Don’t worry - I know Texas isn’t some theme-park full of cowboys and gunslingers 
I’m just a bit worried that Houston’ll be characterless and industrial. I know that students probably only go to the nice bits, but still. Also, I’m very much a left-winger/liberal, and whilst I’m perfectly tolerant of those with different perspectives, I’d rather not have to justify myself constantly, and Texans have a reputation (possibly undeserved) for being conservative. On the other hand, I know that Houston is a very cosmopolitan city, and that students are pretty tolerant, on the whole. I’m not really as worried as I sound - Rice is very high on my list.</p>
<p>I’m actually a fan of the accent, so that’s not an issue :D</p>
<p>Out of interest, where was the person from who thought Texans ride cows to school? Are you sure he/she wasn’t pulling your leg?</p>
