I’m barely a junior in my first semester, but I wanted to find schools that best match my academics and EC’s. I am a California resident and would be the first to attend a four year in my immediate family.
GPA: 4.42 W, 3.8 UW
SAT: 1880 (little studying)
AP: World History (4), Taking: US, Psych, and Bio
EC’s: 60+ hours as a camera operator for Football, 50+ hours with a children’s cooking class, and miscellaneous hours with various organizations (Weakest point)
Clubs: Speech and Debate VP, Foreign Film Club VP, FBLA, CSF

I am willing to stay in state, but would prefer to move away from Los Angeles. I would love to live in the NorthEast or the South, but I have no preference for weather really.

Number 1 question: How much can you and your parents afford?
Do you want a large/small university? Rural or Urban?

@Gumbymom
I am most likely going to be receiving a 10k contribution from my parent to support tuition costs each year. I know I will be taking out loans, but I would like to limit my dependence on them as much as possible.

I am not too concerned with the size of the university, but it would preferably be an hour or two away from a metropolitan area.

@Bulldog97: You as a student can only take out $5500 freshman year in loans and a total of $27,500 over 4 years. The rest will have to come from FA/merit aid and parent loans. You need to run Net Price Calculators (NPC) on any schools your are interested to find out the Cost of Attendance. Then you can start making a list of schools to apply. You need to know your EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) before anything else.

You can’t borrow your way thru. YOU can only borrow $5,500 for freshman year. With your parents $10k, that $15k won’t get you far.

Work on your SAT and take the ACT to get your scores up for better merit…or schools that give great aid.
