Schools where application submittal date impacts housing

I tried posting this in the forum for Class of 2025 parents, but it might be better to put this out to the entire CC community and those folks who have been through the whole application/admittance process.

Which colleges and universities tie your housing priority to the application submittal date? I thought that Clemson has taken that approach, but I thought there were others as well. Thanks for any insights.

Villanova gives housing preference specifically to ED1 applicants.

Check your college list. We submitted refundable housing deposits to a couple of colleges to get into the queue for housing. NOT enrollment deposits.

I honestly never heard of date of application as being a criteria for who gets into the queue first…but apparently others above have had this experience.

Clemson definitely does. I was just taking to my NJ neighbor, Clemson is her daughter’s #1, still hasn’t applied, had no idea about the housing (SC students are aware).

Correction:
Housing is impacted by:

  • how early you get your application in (the university does rolling admissions)
  • how early you get your acceptance letter
  • once you get your acceptance letter, you can put down a non-refundable housing deposit
  • how early you put down your housing deposit then determines how early you get a “pick your dorm” date once dorm selections open up in the spring.

This happens at a lot of colleges.
