Schools with a 50%+ acceptance rate that are great for finance?

Currently helping my brother (he’s a junior) with college admissions. Right now he’s really leaning towards finance and business. We really like the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign because there are so many majors relevant to his interests (Actuarial science, operations management, financial planning). We’d really like to have a few more schools similar to UI. His GPA is a 3.5 and he hasn’t taken the SAT yet but I’m guessing it’ll be in the 85th percentile or so based on his PSAT scores. We live in the Northeast and would rather not pick a school that’s further away than Illinois. All suggestions appreciated! Thanks

Uiuc will not provide financial aid and admission to finance is not very likely for 1200-1250/3.5.

What’s your parents budget?
hat state in the Northeast?

IU-Kelley.

Though getting in to the b-school at UIUC and IU likely is more difficult than the overall admit rate suggests.

We’re from Rhode Island.

Figure out your cost constraint first. If the costs work, in addition to all of the Big Ten schools, you can look at Miami University (OH) and Cincinnati. What else is he looking for in a school?

Obvious choices would be Bentley, Bryant, and Babson. Run the NPC on each.
Fordham is a reach and doesn’t meet need so it really depends on how much you can afford.
Ohio University, UCincinnati (co-op), Temple, SUNY Albany honors, would be matches.
UMass Isenberg, UVermont, Denison, Dickinson would be good reaches.

Many big state flagships (or directional state universities) have 50%+ admission rates and decent business (/accounting/marketing/finance) programs. If you don’t qualify for need-based aid (anywhere), virtually any of them would be cheaper than most private schools at full sticker prices.

If you do qualify for (and need) financial aid, then have a look at some of the Catholic colleges & universities in the NE and mid-Atlantic, such as Loyola-Maryland. They might offer lower net prices than some of the OOS public schools.

UIUC admission rate depends on major. Being from OOS would have a much lower chance than their published admission rate too. So it may not be a 50%+ school for you.
