Was wondering if anyone knew of any schools that offer quad-style dorms (individual rooms with one room that everyone can congregate in) or dorms that offer individual rooms but still let you have a roommate. I value my privacy a lot, but also want to have at least one dormmate, just sleep in a different room. But most schools don’t offer them for freshman I’ve noticed.

The school I was looking at at first, Coastal Carolina, is frequently called a low performing partying backup school I’ve noticed, so I want to have more rigorous options that offer the same types of boarding.

Thank you!

(Would prefer Southeast area, and nothing with Ivy-level academics or anything.)

The southeast is not my area of expertise, so I’ll let someone else provide answers. I will say that choosing a college based upon dorm type will probably not allow you to get the most out of the college experience.

Skieurope, I realize this- if it was all I cared about I would just go to Coastal. I’m looking for colleges with a lot of other great perks that just happen to have this, because it is something I would love to have but not necessary to. Don’t worry, I’m not only looking at these types of schools, it’s just that I’ve only found one so far that offers it because up until a month ago when I received my ACT scores, I wasn’t aiming too high at all with my choices, but now that I have a lot more options of things I can be admitted to from my scores and I’m curious to know of any more besides Coastal that happen to have it.

UVA has this available if you are very competitive you will be Echols Scholar and have this is as dorm option i believe. Source: Brother just finished Freshman Year at UVA.

Just because that style of housing is offered doesn’t mean that you will end up with it as a freshman (lowest of the low in getting room assignments). And this is really a ridiculous criteria to use to select a college. Not kidding – there are dozens of other things you should be looking at, this one shouldn’t even be on the list unless you have a health reason requiring a private room.

UVA actually has what I’d like even without being an Echols scholar- the Gooch/Dillards dorms have bedrooms with doors in between them and a living room, and that’s all I really need. :)

I will look at all of these schools, thank you!

The downside of suite style dorms are the shared bathrooms. At most schools the suite mates are responsible for cleaning them. Toilets, showers, taking out trash? Hall style dorms usually have a cleaning crew every day. I bet many college freshman are too immature to fairly share bathroom clean up. I confess I would have been.

If your weighted gpa is a 3.5 and you have a 32, then alabama would give you free tuition. It also has private suites style rooms for frosh ( a LOT more than auburn has)…but since they are popular, you would have to deposit early to ensure getting one.

the bama app is online now, so get your app in and you will get your scholarship. Then when the housing app goes live in the fall (around Oct), send in your deposit, and you will almost surely get a suites style private room.

You qualify for the honors college at Alabama (including full tuition scholarship and many perks). New honors dorms are suite style, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, kitchenette. Nicest dorms I have seen, most likely nicer than your first apartment will be. After freshman year, many move to nearby apartment complexes that are even nicer (brand new construction, granite and stainless, etc.) and cost even less than the dorms. The suite style dorms go fast, with priority based on date you submit your deposit. Alabama app is already up on their website. Apply asap, and after admitted (quick process), place admissions and housing deposits right away. I think all but $250 would be refundable if you choose to go elsewhere. Small price to pay for getting early on that list.

I agree that this is a poor reason for choosing a college, but if the college is otherwise a good fit, nothing wrong with housing being a factor.

My daughter is staying in the Freshman complex at Florida Tech, with quad suites. I wasn’t impressed and they cost a lot ($1000/sem more than the traditional dorms). I hoped she would chose the traditional dorms as someone cleans, and someone handles the disputes. She wants to live with her team, and they picked these dorms. Having her own room is nice, but cleaning it won’t be.

With a 32 ACT and 3.5 weighted, you have a lot of choices. Select the best fits for you, and once you’re in and have visited, see the ones whose dorms you like best. :)
