Schools with the most pretentious/snobby students?

No i dont want to go to such school. I thought it’d be fun to discuss it.

what schools are known for pretentious/elitist/arrogant student bodies?

Harvard? :)

Princeton comes to mind.

Harvard, Princeton, Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin.

Yale, Princeton, University of Chicago…

I’ll go with iljets10 and say Princeton. Even the admin office gave me an attitude, I had to sulk in a corner for like fifteen minutes after callin’

Harvard and Yale took like a huge number of kids that were of the low socioeconomic status and gave them free tuition. so that’s prob a change for the student body.

I certainly agree about Princeton and even its admissions office. I called during my freshman year and told them that I was interested in transferring and she said that you can’t transfer to Princeton. I didn’t know this and said, “Oh, really?” She said, “Really.” and hung up the phone.

Are you sure it wasn’t: “O RLY?” and “YA RLY”?

she threatened to ***ch slap me!

“Harvard and Yale took like a huge number of kids that were of the low socioeconomic status and gave them free tuition. so that’s prob a change for the student body.”

Usualy the pretentious snobby kids are the rich ones…

Typically. But lately pretentious students tend to stem…

i know that man. that’s why i said it was a change, but who cares.

You really can’t transfer to Princeton? That can’t be true. Can’t you transfer anywhere?

At UVa we have that reputation, but it isn’t true. The folks in Blacksburg at VT just spread it around 'cause they’re jealous. I mean, we love UVa and we’re proud to attend such a great institution but there’s a difference between school pride and snobbery.

Certain schools do not accept transfers. Princeton is one that I know of as a WHOLE and so is the Tepper B School which doesn’t take transfers outside of CMU. Others feel free to add on to this list…

harvard, duke

Any comment on Georgetown?

to the person who put Chicago onto the list, is it because Chicago kids are intellectually pretentious?

Princeton U

Princeton, Harvard, Georgetown, Duke, Emory…

any top school will have its number of pretentious kids.

As long as we’re on the topic of pretentious adcoms, Yale comes to mind. Before they changed their info session speaker/program, this very arrogant gentleman would march up on stage and inform parents that “because Yale has 2,000 courses, there’s no reason you wouldn’t want to come here”. A parent raised her hand and asked if Yale offered meteorology; the Yale admissions officer scowled “no”.

Princeton, Harvard, Duke

Hahaha. That’s a very telling story. I like that.

Princeton is famous for its pretention. But honestly, any school charging tuition over $20,000 a year is going is get a lot of students from families with higher incomes. Of course there are scholarships and financial aid, et cetera, but there will always be those kids. For example, I’m sure that the majority of the guys at Princeton are friendly, outgoing, and tolerant. But I’m equally sure that least a few of them are cold, British, and wear cabled sweaters and Gucci shoes. ;-)
