Sci-fi fans: remember Soylent?

Movie was Soylent Green, right?

It’s people!

What a great movie that was! I still use the line, “Soylent green is people.” I wonder if it is on Netflix…

I remember seeing the movie when I was young and thinking that when I die, I want to go just like the old man-soothing music, beautiful colors and images. It just looked so peaceful. My mother was mortified, but decided against telling me that I would be eaten later in that reality.
I still love the idea of choosing to die that way, just without the processing my body into cheap food part.

@OP,

I grew up on the Big Island! I saw Soylent Green at the Palace Theater. Or the Mamo, if it’s still standing. Those were the only theaters in town back then.

Richard: …is brought to you by Soylent red and Soylent yellow, high energy vegetable concentrates, and new, delicious, Soylent green. The miracle food of high-energy plankton gathered from the oceans of the world.

I would be a big fan of “place of happy release” where people who are ready to leave this world could go and do so in a comfortable and safe way.

^^^ Me, too, anxiousmom.

Gotta recognize Edward G. Robinson, who played the old guy so brilliantly. He was a terrific actor. His performances in this, Double Indemnity, Key Largo and, of course, Little Caesar were phenomenal. Ridiculous but true - he was never even nominated for an Academy Award. He did receive a special Oscar two months after his death. But how can such a great actor wind up not even nominated?

^^Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got 'til it’s gone…as Joni Mitchell would sing…

We just watched this the other night. Terrific movie.

That movie has haunted me for years, but I’ve never seen it since. Has it been on t.v.? Can you get in on Netflix? I wonder what our kids would think of it.
