I’ve been reading info about award-winning science fair projects, such as those who have made the Intel STS semifinals and etc…and they’ve all spent like 40 hours per week on their project!! I’m interested in doing a project, but is there any point in entering any of these competitions, because I know that I can’t commit this amount of time for my project, since I have to keep up my grades and do everything else I enjoy doing. What bout 20 hours per week during the summer, and 10 hours during the school week? Can i be competitive with that? Thanks!

I’m looking to enter ISEF in my junior year (I’m a sophomore now) and honestly, I think it’s more about your idea and how well it’s executed than how many hours you put in. You can have an amazing idea that only takes you maybe 20 hours a week to complete and have a higher chance of being recognized or you can have a mediocre idea that takes 40 hours a week to complete and not even place in your state.
