Science Program?

How is UM’s science program? I am interested in the school, especially its proximity to DC and Baltimore.

However, is the extra tuition worth it? I’m from PA and tuition to Pittsburgh would be 15k, roughly half of UM’s tuition for OOS.

I also know many people compare UM and Penn State, but I am not interested in PSU at all, I want a city environment or a place close to a city

bump!bump!

Which science in particular? I believe they’re all quite good. There were a few UMD tables at the Science & Engineering Expo in DC a few weeks back, for what it’s worth.

Pitt has it way over UMCP for science. Check out the number of Nobel’s for each.

Pitt is best known for all health and biomedical sciences.

Total research at Pitt per 2007 numbers: $558,566,000
Total research at UMCP per 2007 numbers: $359,760,000

To answer your question, it is only worth it if the proximity to Baltimore and DC (30 and 40 mins away) is worth it to you, because otherwise it is not. But if you want a true urban environment, you should just go to Pitt (0 mins away from Pittsburgh).
