Science Vs. Engineering on college app

I’m still exploring if I may be more interested in engineering or one of the purer sciences. But I was wondering if colleges (UPenn specifically) make the distinction between engineering and science when it comes to classes taken and ECs for high school applicants. I mean because that distinction isn’t really made in high school, do colleges make it when it comes to admissions?

For example, I have interned at an organic chemistry laboratory at Princeton University for two years (around 900 hours) and will be attending NJ Governor’s School in the Sciences. Will this make me a stronger applicant for a purer science program (LSM) just because these ECs are more science based, or will I be equally qualified for an engineering program (M & T) b/c those ECs still express my general interest in the sciences (applicative sciences too) overall.

probably about the same

As a high school student your opportunities for exposure into engineering are really limited. Penn will probably see your ECs as strong whether you apply to engineering or pure science.
