I studied abroad for ONE semester freshmen year. I’ve e-mailed them, faxed them, gotten up at 3:00 am to call them numerous times. I even resulted to waking my poor parents up in the wee-hours of the morning to yell at them! It’s not my fault they wouldn’t send in the transcripts!! I’ve contacted U of M and told them, and the admissions lady sounded very understanding, the next thing I know I get a letter telling that my application has been withdrawn?!?! What else could I have done? I’m a good student; they don’t even take freshmen year grades into consideration when recalculating gpa.
Whatever. MSU it is.

My guess is that you’ve gotten this letter pretty recently. Sounds like you’re still letting off steam. I know it can be frustrating and all, but there was just an error in their records. A few hours of frustration is a terrible reason for making a rash decision that will affect the rest of your life. I think you’ll regret giving up on U of M over a silly mistake the office made.

call em back dude and fight for ur position

Errors happen every year. If this was Michigan’s error, than try to swallow the “Screw you” attitude and work to get it corrected.

That said, it’s not clear to me whose error this is. Are you saying the transcript for that term was never sent?

You are right that they do not count freshman grades. They do, however, count freshman courses. They need a complete record to know what you’ve taken. A counselor might show understanding and sympathy, but that doesn’t mean she is able to waive U-M’s requirements for a completed app and admission.

I can’t quite figure out what your position is here–whether or not this is something you want to try to correct. If so, pursue it. Errors happen and if it’s a mistake on Michigan’s part they will make an effort to straighten it out. Do it soon, though, because I guarantee you that there will be an avalance of people calling to try to get their decisions changed.

Hey guys,
thanks for your input. Chibear, you’re right. I wrote the post right after I recieved the letter informing me that my application had been withdrawn. I was letting out steam. The truth is, I really want to go to U of M. That being said, I think it might be too late. I’ve called and e-mailed my admissions counselor, and have heard nothing back. I’m not sure if they have recieved my transcripts or not. Last time I called the School in Yemen (MAO-school, Taizz), I made the secretary promise she would send the transcripts THAT day. I’ll see if the U of M admissions counselors contacts me, and maybe send one more e-mail. If I don’t hear anything in the next week, I think I may just have to send my deposit to MSU. Either way, thanks for being understanding. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Peace.

that reminds me of that movie Orange County where the guidance counselor sends the wrong transcript to Stanford, and the kid doesn’t get in because of the mess up, guidance ppl probably are to blame, they are supposed to send the transcripts to the schools you applied to automatically following midterms…that’s what they do @ my school anyway.

The admissions office is really disorganized. They lose stuff and then send you emails asking where it is, and then they take months to answer a simple question.

Try calling U of M admissions again to see where the exact mistake is and clearly explain your situation. E-mails are passive in nature, but if you make a phone call, they’re required to give you answers. Take initiative!

hey,
i recieved a phone call the next day from my admissions counselor. She said that it was “kind of too late. we’re sort of full. But…you can always transfer. Give me a call in a couple of weeks or during the summer, and we can start on getting you transfered.” Maybe i was meant to go to MSU. Honestly, i’m just relieved to know where i’m going next year, it feels good.

Your username is now slightly embarassing.

There’s a statistic that 90something% of all college students are happy where they end up.

yeah, it is kind of embarassing. my guidance counselor said i was a shoe-in. but she’s kind of old and senial (sp?). at least i’ll know people at msu.

dude…what were your stats?
