Screwed up, sort of starting over. I have a question.

Hey guys. This is my first post here. I thought I’d come here for a little insight.

I started going to a community college, Northwest Arkansas Community College, in the spring of 2008 after I graduated from high school in 2007. I didn’t quite know what to expect, or what was expected of me, so I was in a general A.A. program to get some prerequisite courses out of the way, with no real idea of what I wanted to major in. I had an idea that after I would get my A.A. degree after two years, I would transfer to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and by that time I would know what I wanted to study. Well, that didn’t happen. I ended up at NWACC far longer than I expected because I took a couple semesters off here and there to work, and didn’t do so well in a few classes having to retake them. From then to now I’ve just been going there still without much of a thought of what I want to major in. In the fall semester of 2010 and the spring of 2011, I started getting involved in a few student organizations in the school and trying to focus on classes at the same time, and ended up stretching myself too thin and my GPA has plummeted as a result. Having to look for a job throughout this time didn’t help the situation either and just added to my anxiety.

Suffice it to say, I’m really mad at myself for wasting so much time and money and I’m ready to finally start doing something useful with all of this.

Since then, I’ve been looking at a course catalog and speaking with an advisor over the summer, and I’ve decided that I’d like to get my A.A.S. in Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in Computer Programming. My only concern about this is that I’m not sure that it’s transferable to the UofA or to other Arkansas schools. I’ve read in some places that an Associate in Applied Science degree is NOT transferable and in some places that it is, and as far as I can tell all of the courses in this degree are transferable towards a B.S. in Computer Science or Information Systems at least at the University of Arkansas. I’m a bit confused about whether it is/is not. Could you all enlighten me?

Thank you,
Phil

This is a question that you need to take to the Transfer Admissions Counselor at the university that you want to transfer to. If your CC has a Transfer Advisor, that person should be able to help you as well.
