Scripps Applicants / Class of 2014

Wait, are they notifying us by email or letter?

And congrats to everyone else!

Hello! I applied for the scholarship as well and now after reading this I’m going to be avidly checking both my email and mailbox for the next few days! I’m crossing my fingers.

I am from Minnesota (so cold here!!!) and applied to Pomona and Scripps.

Good luck to all you girls out there!

ughh…I didn’t get ANY email

Now i’m worried!!!

I have a 4.0uw and a 34 ACT…any reason they wouldn’t invite me?

Rocket6Louise, don’t stress out too much. Clearly, you’re a smart girl, and if you’re as well-rounded in every other area as you are in academics, I can’t see how they could deny you at least an invitation to the scholars weekend.

But everyone, please remember that this is a huge scholarship and it is incredibly competitive. Even if you aren’t invited, it is no knock to you, because most JES scholars have, like, saved babies from burning buildings while studying rocket science.

Who knows the mysterious minds of admissions people? :-P

Also, keep in mind, with the recession, the JES scholarship probably just got a lot more appealing - and a lot more applicants. More girls are applying for it, many of whom have strong academics and may not have applied to Scripps without the possible incentive of a scholarship. Just because you didn’t get invited doesn’t mean you didn’t get accepted or aren’t “good enough” - it just means that Admissions decided that you weren’t one of one hundred or so girls (from across the country, keep in mind) that got invited. So keep your chin up. :)

Thats right! Also, they haven’t finished notifying someone! There is a big chance a lot of us will here within the next few days! And lastly… if it is meant to happen things will fall into place  good luck everybody… i doubt anyone will be sleeping well tonight haha!

everyone not someone!*** woops!

I’m just super stressed. There is no way for me to attend without the scholarship, so if I don’t get at least an invite to the weekend, I’m going to take it as a rejection

I noticed that some ppl (ex: meganlauren) have already posted that they have been accepted to their ED schools. Wouldn’t that preclude them from being considered for merit scholarships at other schools that they can’t possibly attend? I thought if you were accepted ED you needed to withdraw all the other apps? Just curious…

Im in the same boat as rocket6louise and caymandriver07… I noticed that too! I’m such a creeper but isn’t Dukes ED binding? Also rocket6louise, they will send emails and then we will also receive something in the mail, though emails come first naturally!

^^It just seems weird that some people got emails, while others did it. Why wouldn’t they go out all together…

I guess it’s not worth stressing over…hahaha…I’ll still stress

and Duke’s ED IS binding

I thought about that too, but you never know! Then I figured maybe its alphabetical and my last name starts with a W so that would explain the delay… but on the other hand, maybe they are sending them out individually-- I dunno! Obviously, I’m stressing over it immensely while I tell myself not to also! Haha! It’s all good though, whatever happens will happen!! And yes… I thought Duke’s ED was binding my friend got in… hmmm… very interesting…

^^I hope someone isn’t double dealing. I think you need to honor ED agreements

My last name starts with B, so now I’m even more worried…
ehh…it was a long shot anyways

My D sent a note thanking them for helping to arrange an alumni interview and also to ask about the timing of the notifications as she has a few other committments in February. She was also told that they hope to get the notification letters out in the next week or so. Maybe its me be pessimistic but I would have figured they’d let her know at that point if she was one of the finalists…oh well. It does seem from last year that the stats are very high…but I’d be pretty annoyed if any deserving young woman just on the cusp of being a finalist was knocked off the list by someone who applied and was accepted ED. BTW for reference D’s stats are:

SAT1: M-710
W-780
CR-680
SAT2: Physics 720
GPA 3.71 in a highly competitive school (this puts her at around the 3rd or 4th decile)

We are in NJ and her surname is in the middle of the alphabet.

Not sure if the helps or hinders but I guess everyone is in this together.

Thanks everyone! I’ll repeat what others said: don’t stress!! (especially you, rocket6louise  ) Notifications are probably not all sent yet. I guess I’ll see some of you next month!

God, I’m nervous. But yeah, congrats to everyone who’s heard so far. I’ve never been so tempted to post my stats and have someone falsely reassure me, haha.

I think my only saving grace is that yesterday was sunday…so maybe they just started notifying today…Idk…i wish I hadn’t seen that some people got emails…

I’m just thinking of everything they may not have liked in my app

Me too, I feel like my RD apps were a lot more…focused? More interesting? idk, oh well now I suppose.

I got my email today. I was very excited. I hope the rest of you receive your emails filled with good news soon.

hey guys, im incredibly sorry for all of the confusion. this is actually an account that i share with my friend (hence the double name in our username). i was invited to the scripps scholars program, whereas my friend (who also uses this username) got into duke ED. yes, it is binding, and she will be attending in the fall. I, on the other hand, did not apply early anywhere (except for the early application date for Scripps to be considered for these scholarships). i’m really excited - good luck to everyone else, and sorry about the confusion! No double dealing here, I promise :)
