Scripps Applicants / Class of 2014

So I’m starting this even though the forum has been kind of dead lately. Have any other CCers out there applied? I applied for scholarship consideration; I really hope I get it, since it’d be the only way I’d be able to go.

I applied!
I submitted last night…so i hope it went through…
:)

Did you apply to any of the other claremont colleges? I applied to Pitzer as well.

I applied to Pomona too; my interviewer said she could see me there or at Stanford also (I applied there too.) I was going to apply to both anyway, but I was glad she thought that.

I applied to Scripps and Pomona also. I’m also waiting for scholarship consideration. Any idea when we will hear about that?

From previous threads it looks like we find out if we’re considered in mid-January, and scholarship weekend is in February sometime. But even if we’re being considered and are invited to the weekend our acceptance isn’t guaranteed, just implied.

So it looks like just a couple weeks now; I’m kind of nervous.

I’m excited and nervous at the same time! I have never been to Claremont since I’m from the east coast so I really want to get the chance to visit. I want to see if the schools are as beautiful as seen in the pictures!

Hey guys, I applied for scholarship consideration!
I wanted to apply to Pomona-but didn’t have the money to apply
Fingers crossed for Scripps

does anyone know the general stats cutoff-ish for scholarship consideration

I applied to Scripps too - using the EDII option! I’m an international applicant, and Patricia Goldsmith came to my high school and it sounded amazing. Especially the residential halls haha. It’s pretty sad that this forum is so dead… It either means Scripps hopefuls don’t go on CC much, or there aren’t very many of us ;)

I live only an hour from the Claremonts, and I can tell you that the campuses (especially Scripps) is even MORE BEAUTIFUL than the promotional material. I know it sounds impossible, but it’s true.

From what I’ve read, we hear about the JESS weekend right about a month before the weekend. This year, I think that the Scripps JESS weekend is the weekend of Feb. 6 (or maybe it’s Feb 5. I don’t have a calendar right next to me). Sooo going with the “hear one month in advance” thing, it sounds like we should hear around Wednesday.

And the residential halls are amazing. The food is also amazing. As is the Field House. (But then again, what ISN’T amazing about Scripps?)

A note on Pomona scholarships: Pomona doesn’t give academic scholarships. So if you’re banking on that as a way to help pay for it, don’t. They cover the difference between what your family is CALCULATED (key word: CALCULATED) they can pay and the total cost of attending Pomona. That works out well if your family doesn’t make much money, but if you live in an hour where your family makes a decent amount of money but there is a high cost of living, you still may be saddled with the lion’s share of the tuition/room and board costs. Just a note.

On the Scripps site it says

so I guess we find out if we’re considered in the next week or so.

Now I’m incredibly nervous.

ahhhhh!!!
I thought I had a solid two weeks before we found out

Hey ladies! So I did some major searching throughout the forums and saw that last year they started notifying scholarship finalists on January 5th! So we could potentially know by tuesday! I wish you all the best of luck, I know I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Oh and the campus is outstandingly beautiful! I’m from northern California, so I’m used to pretty nice weather, but Scripps was gorgeous! I visited during November and despite the “fall” weather, flowers and orange trees were still in full bloom  Also the facilities on campus are amazing-- Denison Library looks straight out of a movie, as much as I hate pulling all nighters studying… I think I could enjoy them there haha!

Hey everyone! I just got an email saying that I’m a finalist for scholarship consideration:

Congratulations! I’m delighted to inform you that you’ve been named a finalist for a Scripps College scholarship. As a finalist, you are cordially invited to participate in the Scripps Scholars Program, which will take place Sunday, February 7 to Tuesday, February 9. Participants are expected to attend all planned activities.

The program is essentially designed for you to get a better sense of Scripps, academically and socially, and for us to get to know you better as well. Lectures, class visits, faculty interviews, tours, and meetings with current students will enable you to experience the full range of opportunities available to you at Scripps.

Scripps will cover all expenses for Scholars Weekend, including your plane ticket, ground transportation, two nights at the Doubletree Hotel Claremont, and all meals.

^super-excited about the last part  Does anyone know how many finalists end up getting scholarships:?

Congrats, plumdum! I got an email from the admissions office that said they’re going to notify the finalists in the next week or so.

Ugh, I have a bad feeling.

I’m a finalist, too! Does anyone know how many people are invited to the program in February?

about 120 girls are invited down! and no worries snoopyiscool… they said letters went out today and they will also continue to send them tomorrow!! keep your head up sweets!! and congrats meganlauren and plumdum thats so great!!

Anywhere from 20 to 35 girls get the scholarship, from what I remember reading. Congratulations, by the way. :)

Actually when Laura Stratton came to my school, she said that one year they offered up to 118 scholarships… she said that it all depends on how qualified their group of girls is! The 20-35 is related to how many girls actually attend Scripps on the JES Scholarship, because you figure many of the girls being offered the scholarship go on to better schools since they are so strong academically!
