Scripps ED Merit Aid?

I’m really interested in applying early to Scripps for the fall of 2019, and am wondering whether anyone knows about merit based scholarships with applying early… Are they more likely to give merit aid if you apply RD?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I remember someone on here stating that her daughter got merit with ED.

Scripps definitely does give merit awards to ED applicants. Whether they are as generous with ED applicants as they are with equivalently-qualified RD applicants… I don’t think there’s any detailed info to answer this question. It seems counterintuitive that any college would invest scholarship money as generously in the ED round as in the RD pool where that money will pay off in terms of yield… yet quite a few schools assert that they are indeed as generous with ED applicants. (I can’t recall whether I’ve ever seen a statement from Scripps specifically on this point.) Presumably colleges want to be able to assure applicants that they’re not forfeiting merit potential by submitting a binding application, so perhaps the ability to offer that assurance is worth the cost of the ED merit aid awarded.

Unfortunately I have no hard data to offer, other than to say that ED merit scholarships do happen.

I agree, it seems very counterintuitive. I’ve always taken that stand and was quite surprised when others stated they have received money. But if I had to guess, I would guess it’s more likely during RD, but that is what it would be—a guess.

One thing you can count on is that your FA (need based) will be the same regardless of ED or RD.

Thanks everyone!

Chiming in late to say my D was offered merit aid last year – but during RD round. Just one data point, but honestly, I’m a skeptic that colleges award much merit aid during ED rounds – any college, not just Scripps.

Good luck!!!

My D did not get merit when accepted ED which surprised (and disappointed) me. I thought she had the grades and scores for merit.

Same! So excited that she got in but was surprised/disappointed that she didn’t get a merit scholarship. Especially when they say that 28% of the girls do (at least that’s what my husband said-I haven’t looked it up myself). Congrats to you and your daughter though!

My daughter was accepted yesterday early decision. She also did not receive any mention of merit aid. Is it possible this comes later?
