I know some kids with lower stats than those here who have been admitted. I am so confused how they are doing this?
@Boyandgirlmom: You can only compare admitted stats by major since that is how the applicants are evaluated. Their EI and how they are ranked within their major are what will determine an acceptance, waitlist or denial. Also local in-service area applicants get a priority.
So what major? How they are releasing decisions is one of the Cal State mysteries…
I applied under the pre-film and television production major, GPA of 3.6 and an 1190 SAT score. Any idea of when they’ll send out the arts admissions?
Have any oos nursing students received acceptances?
@Boyandgirlmom yeah—it’s not making much sense how the acceptances are getting released. There are kids at my D’s high school with lower GPAs and ACT/SAT scores who already received acceptances. My D’s is still pending. All I can guess is that they are releasing by majors or similar fields of study?
@kukui77 I wonder if there isn’t some element involving WHEN the student applied. There are only so many spots in each major and if you have 40,000 applications they can’t review/rank all of them, all at once – so once the spots are filled, later applicants may be out of luck? My son applied on the last day allowed and has not heard anything yet. @Gumbymom any thoughts?
The order of application is a very unlikely factor at an impacted school. Anecdotally, my daughter submitted her application on October 8th, and she is also still waiting for notification. Her boyfriend submitted his application the last week of the window and he was accepted yesterday. They have similar stats, though his are slightly higher, and they have different majors.
@AMCdad Thank you!
The kid I know that already heard has lower GPA and ACT, no AP or honors classes and same major; Business. Odd.
And My son applied October 3, still says October 8 as Status date.
.
Looks like so far the released decisions the last 2 days were all in-state?
My my son was accepted yesterday with that major. 4.2/1350 local in state.
My son was accepted this morning at 8:17 AM
In state but not local area
CSU Weighted GPA 4.03
SAT 1330
Looking at last years post there were acceptances posted until the end of May. Many toward the end were waitlist removals. So plenty of time still.
My daughter applied with Pre-Art Multimedia-nothing yet.
My son accepted yesterday. PoliSci major with a 4.2 gpa.
All schools must give their decision for incoming freshman by April 1st. So May would only be for waitlist and alternative cases.
waitlisted for nursing just now
CSU GPA: 4.32
SAT: 1360
@emmandeth: I have no special insight on how and when admissions decides to release their decisions. SDSU is not as transparent as some schools like SJSU which lists their EI thresholds by major so you can get an idea of where you stand. Also there is a large variation in the EI thresholds between majors along with priority given to local applicants. Some CSU’s post how they give local applicants by priority by giving them a GPA bump of 0.01 (example SJSU).
Also, in the past Nursing students were usually the last to hear about their decisions and many are posting decisions today along with a recent waitlisted applicant.
I have been following the Cal State admissions for several years and they seem to like to change it up every year so there is no predictability.
Sorry I cannot give any better insight other than eventually every applicant will get a decision.
Anyone interested in waitlist stats for last year, here they are and not broken out by major. Also the # of students they waitlist vs. accepting off the waitlist can vary each year.
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list: 3,529
Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 1,607
Number of wait-listed students admitted: 513
I was admitted into the theatre program today!
