SDSU vs GCU Engineering

San Diego State or Grand Canyon for Mechanical Engineering? In terms of academic quality, rep, careers, etc.

SDSU hands down.

Can you get in?

SDSU uses the eligibility index to rank applicants based on major. First you need to calculate your CSU GPA:

https://secure.csumentor.edu/planning/high_school/gpa_calculator.asp

If you are in-state California, you can get extra honors credit for some Honors classes in 10-11th grade along with AP/IB classes. See which honors classes qualify by looking up your HS: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/all

If you are OOS, only AP/IB/DE classes are eligible for the extra honors points in the GPA calculation.

The eligibility index (EI) is calculated using your ACT composite or SAT (Math + Critical Reading) scores.

(CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10) or (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR)

An EI of 1000+ for ACT or 4100+ for SAT is competitive for SDSU.

Younger son’s roommate last year was an ME major and very happy with ME program at SDSU.

I already attend SDSU, but I was thinking about transferring.

Why would you want to transfer to a for profit university that lacks any ABET accredited programs when you already attend San Diego State?

You’re at SDSU, one of the best CSU’s and one that many students seek to attend. I second whenhen: why in the world would you want to attend a non-ABET accredited program that has zero track record and no reputation (looking for a job from a for-profit with a non accredited degree is the same as looking for a job directly from high school).
It’s not even a choice (it’s as if you were asking: would you like to have dinner in a nice restaurant, or shoot yourself in the foot?)

To be in the Phoenix area. My other consideration was ASU and potentially their Barrett honors college if they take transfers.
