Seafood juice in the frig, ewwwwe

DD put some shellfish in the frig and the bag leaked. Any suggestions?

DD has tried vinegar, baking soda, bleach, vodka (cleaning, not drinking). She has thrown away things like the egg carton which may be permeated with the smell, but still the odor lingers,

Can any one offer anything with which they have experience?

She needs to empty the fridge. Wipe everything down…and start again. That smell has permitted everything in the fridge.

The good news is that you know it will never, ever happen again, because she’ll learn to double bag anything like that!

Sadly they were double bagged, but had pokey shells. I think she has emptied and washed down the entire frig, including all the condiment bottles.

Charcoal. The old fashioned kind, not the briquettes.

This happened to me at Christmas…ewwww doesn’t begin to cover it. Sad to say it will continue to stink for what seems like forever. I emptied my fridge, dismantled all the drawers, wiped if down with hot soapy water, then with a clean rag soaked in vinegar, then put bowls of baking soda on every shelf. It was truly as clean as it could be, and it STILL stunk. I guess there must have been a tiny splotch of seafood juice somewhere that I couldn’t get to. ( like the nether regions around the plastic cover of the light). Rest assured, it now smells fine. I guess whatever was still stinky ran out of stinkiness ;-)

Especially clean softer plastics, like the gaskets which may have absorbed some of the smell.
She might get some of those gel packs designed to absorb moisture in basements and unused rooms.
This guy suggests using newspapers & charcoal.

Have you tried lemon juice?

I always use lemon juice to get fish smell off my hands, so maybe that would work.

I had a horrific dead animal odor in my under-stairs closet and found an odor remover at Home Depot that looks like a mesh bag full of rocks. I can’t remember what it was called, but it worked well. It was in the aisle with cleaning supplies.

My mother swore by leaving a cup of ground coffee in the fridge to remove odors. Worth a try.

Try the rocks–they work well. Try the cat litter aisle and look for the deodorizer that’s used for cat boxes.

Or get some activated charcoal from the aquarium aisle at the pet supply store.
