SEAP vs private company internship?

SEAP offers 4k for 8 weeks at a government lab, working on microelectronics, compared to another offer of 8k for 8 weeks at a private company in the same field.

I’m having trouble deciding between the two, money isn’t that big of an incentive, unless it’ll look better on my application. My thinking with SEAP is that being a government internship makes it substantially more prestigious, but does the 2x payment from the private company make up for it?

Given current uncertainties over government cuts, is taking any federally funded government position a good idea?

I would not want bank on any federal internship (or job) at this point:

Why ?

And it’s an internship - it’s not about prestige. It’s about building a resume, job duties, ability to get a job after. It’s not about prestige.

At this point, assuming the private job isn’t funded by the government, I’d take that. Even without the current govt stance, I still might after looking at duties.

I don’t see why a government internship would be more ‘prestigious’ simply because of who backs it.
