Search help needed- HS kids dog v cat traits essay

Recently I came across a humorous essay which I believe was posted on CC about high school / college age kids having ‘Dog’ type traits (i.e., happy to see you, social, likes to spend time with you, vs. ‘Cat’ traits (ignores the family, shows up only to eat, wants to be let out etc). The essay basically said that kids growing up were more ‘dog-like’, but when they hit the teen years they became more ‘cat-like’. It was quite amusing and I would like to find it again so I can print it out.

Can anyone help find it? I could use a good laugh!

It was printed in Reader’s Digest many years ago. It was called “The Cat Years” from the San Francisco Chronicle, March 28, 1996, written by Adair Lara.

I still show it to my siblings who have teenagers.

3bm103,
Thanks so much for the information about the essay. I recently read it, but didn’t bookmark it. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me find it again.

I hope others will read it and find it as amusing as I did.

You’re probably thinking about the cat & dog post on this thread:

Yes. That’s it. I guess I should leave the cafe occasionally.
