Search on for missing UVa student

I haven’t looked at all the links but I’ve been following the news from Richmond and it is leading the local news. The have shown surveillance footage of Hannah, walking, then running, then walking. In my experience I never knew anyone simply get drunk and wander. I’ve been bothered with a concern that she may have been given a drug at one of the stops she made earlier in the night.

They filled the John Paul Jones Arena on Friday with volunteers. They were instructed on search techniques and Saturday a.m. there will be over 1,000 searchers working.

There are multiple “details” and reports and it’s unclear as to what the facts are. According to the Washington Post, apparently at least three men saw her just before her disappearance; a man who felt she was somehow in distress but says he did not approach her directly, a man whom the first man saw with his arm around her, and a third man in dreadlocks whom the WaPost says had drinks with her in a bar (but the chronology of his activity with her is unclear to me).

I think it has been established that she and the “dreadlocks guy” entered a bar together and stayed for about 15 minutes. He was the one with the burnt orange vehicle. I am assuming that this is the car the police have searched and impounded. After finding evidence in the car they got a warrant to search the apartment that I am assuming is his. The 3 men that were in the apartment when the police arrived, left, but the police have stated they know where they are. Guessing that the “dreadlocks guy” is among these 3.

I had a glimmer of hope but will now agree that this will most likely end badly. Also agree with a previous poster who raised the possibility of something being put in her drink at one of the parties. That video of her sprinting down the street at full speed was bizarre and not something your typical drunk person could do without stumbling.

CNN is saying she got into the car. Not sure how they know that unless there was a witness or they found hair or fibers or something. But, they also say they have no probable cause for an arrest.

What you don’t know, and would be of great interest, is what the person who owned the car is saying about whether Hannah was in his car at all, and if so, when and where she left the car. If they have a credible witness who saw her enter the car, then the answers given by the owner could be very revealing. But its still possible (if not probable) that these guys had nothing to do with her disappearance.

It’s hard to judge by the news, but I have the impression that the head police official is competent, and is taking this matter very personally. That’s good.

And I think it is probable that one of the 3 did have something to do with her disappearance. The fact that they left the house once the police impounded the car is odd. Wouldn’t a totally innocent person stick around to figure out what was going on or to call a lawyer to ask what their rights were or what they should be doing?. They all just left and apparently have not returned to the house. So someone must know something.

I have been thinking “drugs” all along, too. Something about how she’s acting in the videos, and that she texted she was lost in an area apparently familiar to her. She could have been given something without her knowing, or taken it willingly. I’m so scared of hearing more news about this, it seems so unlikely it will be good news.

Though I’d guess she knew the main part of that area well enough (bars and restaurants,) she had only lived in that area for two weeks. Also, some have speculated she was running because she was near a RR bridge where homeless hang out. Some of her awkward walking I thought was about the height of her shoes. editing: I see they don’t look like heels.

I found it distressing when Longo said, “When we arrest the person responsible for deconstructing the lives of (Hannah’s parents) Mr. and Mrs. Graham and this community, there’s going to be a prosecution that leads to a conviction.” I wished he had included Hannah and thought it sounded ominous.

I have an inkling that the text saying she was “lost” might have been sent by someone else from her phone. I thought that text went out at 1:40 a.m. and that was well after she was seen leaving the bar with the “dreadlocks guy”. It gave a location in the text that was nowhere near where video showed she was a half hour earlier. I also think it odd that she would text I am on the corner of ………… and then she say she is lost. That corner was within a block of where she lived.

The Daily Mail is reporting they know the name of this person of interest. I’m not putting it out there as it could be bogus as I don’t see anybody else reporting this. But says he’s a nursing assistant , admits to going into the bar with her but then says they went their separate ways. If any of that is true, it still would make no sense that he did not come forward on his own as this has been all over the news nationally and certainly all over Charlottesville.

The police chief also said yesterday that dreadlocks guy is know to them which usually means he has been questioned before or has some kind of history with law enforcement. He added that he didn’t like the term person of interest however they were very interested in this guy but don’t have the legal authority to haul him in, yet.

Actually to correct my above post, her text was sent at 1:20 a.am. and stated she was on the corner of 14th and Wertland and lost. That location is 1/2 mile from where she lived. But the video footage shows her downtown at 1:08 and after.

The local NBC affiliate (news 29) just tweeted name of the “Person of Interest” too. Tweet said it was from the police but that the police haven’t talked to him yet. HUH? If it is the same man described yesterday in the press conference, that would make no sense as Longo said in the conference he HAD spoken to the man, but wants to speak to him again.

Surely, the police would tail the dreadlock man.

I do hope the news organizations don’t screw this up. Between misreporting criminal investigations and the ones who give road maps to enemies on how we’ll conduct surveillance or how we found out such and such, sometimes I have the feeling of “with friends like these…”. Maybe theres no harm in it, but I’m not so sure.

Who here thinks this guy still has dreadlocks?? Time for a haircut…

I’m not in love with news tweets. Get it first and get it right used to be the standard. Get it right is getting lost too often.

I still don’t get the white guy following her and then stopping after he saw her meet up with dreadlocks guy (and then reporting that to the police). Why was he following her at all? Was he maybe working with dreads guy?

I guess I watch too many cop shows but I don’t get why they have not interrogated him yet. I know they don’t want to j jeopardize the investigation but they need to find out from him what he is saying about his contact with her. Also, what are the people at the Tempo Bar saying, is there tape of them in the bar together, how were they interacting, etc.

I don’t get who was bald (or nearly so) and had the goatee. I thought that’s what he originally said. Or was that some media jump?
