Search on for missing UVa student

http://www.wset.com/story/26537444/uva-president-deep-concern-for-missing-student</a></p>

So sorry to hear this. I hope she’s okay but it doesn’t sound good. Can’t even imagine what her family is going through.

Prayers for this young lady and her family…

Please help spread the photos of her around Va.

I hope that Hannah Graham will turn up unharmed. There was a previous abduction (rape& murder) of a Virginia Tech student after a Metallica concert in Charlottesville/UVA area a few years ago. The DNA from the suspect in that case has been linked to another assault also in the UVA area. Not trying to be morbid, but I’m truly worried for young women at UVA or visiting the UVA area. Wonder how the university has responded with regards to security.

This is very sad. I stress to my daughter NEVER walk alone, although it appears she wasnt far from her residence? The article also said it is believed she was intoxicated, which may explain the “I am lost text”. I feel really bad for her parents. You send your kids off to school and warn them about the dangers of alcohol, but you never know what decisions they will make.

Been following this for a day or 2. So sad… Fingers crossed…

limeymum, The DNA link was between Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student visiting Charlottesville and an abduction and rape case from 2005 in Fairfax County, not the Charlottesville area. This is very sad and unfortunately, will probably not end well.

Terrible. A parent’s worst nightmare for sure. If something bad happened, I hope they find out soon. I cannot imagine the agony of going years before knowing what’s become of your child.

The police found camera footage showing that she was walking far away from the University/student area early in the morning by herself after a night of drinking. She was apparently lost. First year UVa students are not allowed to have cars, so she may not have known anyone she could call for a ride. Charlottesville as a whole is not a dangerous city, but it only takes one bad guy to do a great deal of harm. This is not the first woman to disappear in Charlottesville.

In that situation, students should go to some place well lit with semi-responsible people and call a cab.

Hannah is a second year student so was familiar with the area around Grounds. The search area has been expanded - police are expected to hold a news conference at 4 pm today. I believe the local stations will be streaming the broadcast - Newsplex.com and NBC29 are local. In addition, an alert was issued in Lexington that the suspect in Morgan Harrington’s disappearance and subsequent death was possibly in the area:

http://wtvr.com/2014/09/16/public-safety-notice-issued-that-morgan-harrington-suspect-sighted/</a></p>

Very sad and frightening for the family. I hope she is found soon.

Yes, she is a second year , not a first year. She was clearly disoriented and going further and further away from her apartment and Grounds. She was seen on surveillance at McGrady’s Pub and a few minutes later near a Shell Station even further away from Grounds, by herself. Someone says they spotted her near the Downtown Mall after that but not sure if there is any surveillance tape on that, but that is even further away. I did see somewhere that she was with a male at the pub who offered to walk her home but she declined, saying she would be fine (but I only saw that mentioned in one article so not sure if that is accurate). And as sabaray noted, there is a press conference at 4pm. Very sad.

Here is a link to the most recent information available from the local station:

http://www.nbc29.com/story/26555344/police-continue-search-for-missing-uva-student</a></p>

I was worried D’s fourth year about her housing and late nights getting home (whether for social or academic reasons, it doesn’t matter) - I can’t understand how or why Hannah ended up in that area. I truly hope she is found for her family’s sake.

I agree that it is puzzling why she was so far from Grounds. This is terrible and those of us with current or past students there can really picture all these areas they’re talking about.

It’s too bad the free trolley doesn’t operate that late at night. Do the regular buses? They run past the downtown mall area.

Like most college towns C’ville has an active taxi service to serve the students. Uber just came to town also. Most students have the local cab # on their phone or memorized. I can still recall the number for Badger Cab. C-VILLE Weekly | Fare share: App-based taxi service Uber arrives in Charlottesville;

Oh dear Lord. These stories always make me ill. So sad. A student at Appalachian State disappeared two weeks ago and was later found (10 days) …deceased. and its reportedly a self inflicted cause of death. Very very sad.

My prayers for her and her family and friends. So distressing.

I hate these stories. I find myself thinking about this poor girl and her family often - I can not imagine what a nightmare this is for her family.

This is the latest surveillance camera video released. It seems like there are a fair amount of people walking around so hopefully someone knows something.

<a href=“Find Hannah: Police Searching for Man Seen Talking to Missing UVA Student Prior to Disappearance – NBC4 Washington”>Find Hannah: Police Searching for Man Seen Talking to Missing UVA Student Prior to Disappearance – NBC4 Washington;

I am a bit confused about the timeline. If she texted her friends early Saturday morning saying she was “lost”, how is it that she wasn’t reported missing until Sunday? I hope that information is incorrect. It just seems like a long time. Regardless, this story serves as yet another reminder that we should emphasize to our kids the importance to never assume someone is o.k. if they haven’t seen or heard from them in several hours. I know kids don’t want to be dramatic or the alarmist, but sadly these horrible stories are not uncommon.

Prayers and thoughts to her family and the entire UVA community.

Thursday morning update: She’s still missing. Video may show a man following her.

I imagine this situation will make Cville install more cameras, which the Police Chief had requested previously.

<a href=“Reward offered for information in Graham case, person of interest described”>http://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/new-surveillance-video-shows-man-following-missing-uva-student/article_0fdd71ec-3ee0-11e4-97d8-0017a43b2370.html</a></p>

They showed that surveillance video on one of the morning shows today.
I’m praying for that girl but I admit I am not very hopeful.
